December 2016
Welcome to the newest edition of the Cornerstones enewsletter. The BACnet International community benefits from information and education shared through Cornerstones, the organization's monthly electronic publication. This publication is disseminated to members of the BACnet community, connecting corporate, integrator, site, student and individual end users.

Cornerstones is a unique publication because it speaks not only to the engineer and contractor communities, but also to facility professionals, building managers and owners, and other personnel.
This is where you come in. We need you to connect! If there is a best practice, company news, product news or BACnet Success Story you want to share, please send them to us. And don't leave out the photos!

All submissions should be sent to Kathleen Magee, BACnet International's Marketing Manager.

Success Story
MNDOT District 4 Headquarters
Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT)
Detroit Lakes, MN

The project was a retrofit of multiple building segments including office areas and shop areas. The MNDOT was also especially concerned with control of comfort levels within the building. The EC-NetAX Web-based building management platform was used for HVAC and Lighting control integration, with ECB Series controllers for control of mechanical equipment.

The project also included LonWorks ECL Series controllers for VAV control, as this allowed for re-use of fieldbus wiring in the building.

The schedule was fast tracked, with minimized downtime of equipment, as the facility was fully occupied during retrofit.

The retrofit provides additional controllability over their building, with usability allowing the facility management team to perform continuous commissioning themselves and to integrate in-house developed monitoring and control sequences.

In addition, the retrofit has provided for improved comfort levels for occupants as well as operational cost savings.

BTL
As of January 2, 2017 the BTL Listing and WSPCert Certificate programs will be merged into a single program called BTL Certification. In this new program, a single application to the BTL will provide companies with:

 - a BTL Listing,
 - a Certificate of Conformance, and
 - the right to use the BTL Mark.

Applications for a Listing or Certificate separately will no longer be available. The requirements for a product to qualify for BTL Certification are the same as was previously required for the two separate programs.

If you currently have products with Listings and/or Certifications, a representative from your company should have received an email with further details and instructions. If this notification was not received, or if you have any questions about this program, please contact David Nardone at [email protected] .

According to a new market research report titled " HVAC Controls Market by System (Temperature, Ventilation, Humidity & Integrated Controls), Component (Sensors and Controllers & Controlled Devices), Revenue Source (HVAC Controls & BEMS), Application, and Geography - Global Trend and Forecast to 2022" , by the research firm Markets and Markets, the HVAC controls market is expected to reach USD 17.51 Billion by 2022, at a CAGR of 10.8% between 2016 and 2022.

The major factors driving the HVAC controls market include the growing demand for improved energy-efficient devices and low environmental impact with the use of HVAC controls, growing number of construction activities, and increased legislation and energy management initiatives by the government for increasing the adoption of HVAC.

Factors such as the high level of efficiency through wireless controls and sensors and tax reduction from government further support the growth of the HVAC controls market.

New Official Interpretation to BACnet Standard
