REVIVE YOUR WORK-FROM-HOME SKILLS
You know how most of us learned over the past year that we can work remotely? Well, there are a few days coming up when you might want to do that again.

Spring Training is back and Lee County’s Traffic Operations Center reminds motorists to be prepared for increased traffic near the stadiums at game time, especially when the Minnesota Twins and the Boston Red Sox take to their respective fields at the same time on the same day. Both stadiums will be operating at reduced capacity to allow for social distancing, but the proximity of the stadiums may result in increased traffic congestion.

This year, DOT advises motorists to avoid the Daniels Parkway corridor on the afternoon of three specific dates:

  • Friday, March 12 ‒ The Boston Red Sox host the Tampa Bay Rays at Jet Blue Stadium and Minnesota Twins host the Atlanta Braves at Hammond Stadium. Both games start at 1:05PM.

  • Tuesday, March 16 ‒ The Minnesota Twins host the Pittsburgh Pirates at Hammond Stadium and The Boston Red Sox will host the Atlanta Braves at Jet Blue Stadium with both games starting at 1:05PM.

  • Tuesday, March 30 ‒ The Minnesota Twins will host the Pittsburgh Pirates at the Hammond Stadium with the game starting at 12:05PM and the Boston Red Sox will host the Atlanta Braves at Jet Blue Stadium with game starting at 1:05PM.

During these days when both teams are home, peak traffic is anticipated between the hours of 11:30AM and 1:00PM and then again between 3:45PM and 4:30PM.

The DOT operations center has special programming for traffic-signal timing to help keep vehicles moving. The county’s traffic specialists also coordinate with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the baseball teams. For emergency or non-emergency questions about the traffic signal operation, contact the TOC at LeeTrafficTOC@leegov.com or visit Lee County Department of Transportation.

The Boston Red Sox train at JetBlue Park, 11500 Fenway South Drive, Fort Myers, and the Minnesota Twins train about six miles away at the CenturyLink Sports Complex, 14100 Ben C. Pratt/Six Mile Cypress Parkway, Fort Myers. Learn more about Spring Training in Lee County
LEECARES OPENS EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
As of Monday, March 1, applications are being accepted for the LeeCares 2021 Emergency Rental Assistance Program to help households unable to pay rent and utilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The application and full eligibility information is available at www.LeeFLcares.com.

Residents now renting in unincorporated Lee County, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers Beach, Cape Coral and Sanibel can apply at that site. Residents of the City of Fort Myers can apply at a portal established by Fort Myers. A link to the city’s portal is available at www.LeeFLcares.com. Anyone who is unsure if their residence is within the city boundary can log on to the county’s website for a tool to assist them. A tool also exists on the City of Fort Myers site. Eligible applicants could receive up to six months of assistance for back rent and utilities, and up to three months of future rental payments. Lee County has received about $23.3 million from the U.S. Treasury for this program.

U.S. Treasury guidelines require that applicants fall at or below 80% of Area Median Income and demonstrate financial hardship related to COVID-19 to qualify. The income limit is $38,600 for an individual, $55,100 for a family of four or $72,750 for a family of eight.

Eligibility for The LeeCares 2021 Emergency Rental Assistance Program is limited only to those rental households impacted economically by the COVID-19 pandemic.
