Safely Picking Up Prescriptions

Q: If a patient suspected of having COVID-19 was not tested but was advised to isolate at home for more than 14 days, and prescriptions have been sent to an AltaMed pharmacy, what is the next step in getting the patient their medication?

A: If possible, the patient should have their medication sent to a pharmacy with a drive-thru window. If this is not available, but the patient can be checked into the pharmacy over the phone and have the prescription brought to their car, that would be another good option. If neither of these is an option, the patient can have their medication sent to a convenient pharmacy, enter the pharmacy while wearing a mask, practice proper hand hygiene, briefly check in with the pharmacy, and wait in their car until the prescription is ready. The pharmacy can call or text the patient once the prescription is available, or ask a staff member to bring the prescription to the patient's car.
Reminder About PPE at Patient- or Participant-Facing Sites

PPE requirements are available on Town Square or can be accessed here.

There is also guidance available regarding mask usage; if your mask is not dirty, damaged, or difficult to breathe through, you can continue to use it. We recommend that those who work with patients or participants discard their surgical face masks at the end of each shift.

Reminder: All safety guidelines to date can be found on Town Square and will be updated as necessary.
