Additional Funds Approved to Fight COVID-19

Federal Update: Senators in both parties reached a deal to provide $10 billion to combat COVID-19, but the agreement leaves out funding for the global virus response. The $10 billion is less than half of the $22.5 billion the White House initially requested. Click here to read more.
  • The $10 billion will remain available until September 30, 2025.
  • The goal of this funding is to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus, including necessary expenses with respect to research and development, manufacturing, production, purchase, distribution of vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics, medical products, services, and supplies.
  • $5 billion to develop and procure therapeutics.
  • At least $750 million in efforts to fight future variants and to build vaccine manufacturing capacity.
Los Angeles County Sees Increase in COVID-19 Subvariant

Los Angeles County Health Director Barbara Ferrer said last week that COVID-19 case numbers are no longer declining and there has been an increase in the circulation of the BA.2 subvariant. The County’s overall community levels remain low. Please click here for more information.

As of Friday, April 1, the Los Angeles County mandate requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test for indoor “mega events” is no longer in effect. With the lifting of this order, both indoor and outdoor “mega events” in the County no longer require guests to show proof of vaccination. The order for outdoor “mega events” was lifted in February. Partnership to Help Reach Hesitant Parents

The ¡Ándale! ¿Qué Esperas? campaign has partnered with Grupo Chespirito to produce a Public Service Announcement featuring the iconic characters of Chespirito’s El Chavo Animado for parents who have not yet vaccinated their children.

In California, just 31.8% of children between five and 12 are fully vaccinated, leaving almost 2.2 million children in the state who have yet to receive a single dose. Studies show that this pandemic hit Latino families the hardest as both parents and children may have questions and hesitancy about the vaccine. That is why El Chavo and the ¡Ándale! ¿Qué Esperas? campaign have joined together to help educate both parents and children to learn more about the benefits of the vaccine.
Safety Guidelines at Work

  1. Wear your masks—Face masks are to be worn at all times over your nose and mouth (except when drinking or eating), and should be stored properly or discarded. Patients need to wear masks at all times in examination rooms as well.
  2. Maintain hand hygiene—Staff should have easy access to hand sanitizer dispensers to clean hands frequently, and should wash their hands for 20 seconds at a time.
  3. Practice physical distancing—Stay six feet apart from other individuals whether inside or outside.
  4. Wipe down any work surfaces you touch.
  5. If employees need to be within six feet of someone for a prolonged period of time, wear a face shield and face mask in both administrative and clinical settings—avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. In addition, a face shield and face mask need to be worn at all times when interacting with patients.
  6. Employees must wear appropriate PPE when on site.
