Q & A of the Week

Q: How much notice would AltaMed give to telecommuting staff before asking them to return to the office? Some people believe that telecommuting staff will be returning to the office soon. This is worrisome, as it’s being reported that California has reached a new high in the number of hospitalizations related to COVID-19, with the highest number of hospitalized patients in Los Angeles.

A: The current status of COVID-19 in the community continues to serve as a marker for when it is safe to bring employees back to the office. Reasonable notice will be provided to employees when/if there are changes to working arrangements. In addition, should you have any other questions regarding telework, please work directly with your manager and reference the Temporary Guideline for Telecommuting .
Following Safety Guidelines at Work—It's Your Responsibility!

We continue to notice employees who are not complying with the ongoing safety guidelines listed below, especially wearing a mask. It is everyone's responsibility to adhere to AltaMed's safety practices. Kindly remind colleagues and your staff to follow all safety guidelines—we must work together to provide a safe & healthy work environment!

  1. Wear Your Masks – Face masks are to be worn at all times over your nose and mouth (except when drinking or eating), and should be stored properly or discarded.
  2. Maintain hand hygiene – Staff should have easy access to hand sanitizer dispensers to clean hands frequently, and should be washing hands for 20 seconds at a time.
  3. Practice physical distancing – Six feet apart from other individuals whether inside or outside.
  4. Wipe down any work surfaces you touch.
  5. Patient-facing staff, including front office, should wear a face shield or eye covering in addition to a face maskavoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  6. Employees must wear appropriate PPE when on site.
Clinic Safe Environment Committee Conducts Site Assessments and Updates Signage

In our ongoing effort to provide a safe and healthy work environment, AltaMed has created a multi-department Clinic Safe Environment committee charged with evaluating each area of AltaMed and setting appropriate safety guidelines. To date, site assessments have been completed for each clinic and will be shared with Operations to implement safety practices, such as physical distancing guidelines. Once these guidelines are finalized, we will share them with staff.

Signage is being updated and placed at each clinic including new interior and exterior floor decals for physical distancing, lobby waiting areas, hand hygiene, and wearing a mask. Signage will also be updated for the Corporate offices.
Testing Site Changes; Updated Criteria, Screening and Intake Questions

As of today, July 1, AltaMed will no longer be listed on the Los Angeles or Orange County websites as offering COVID-19 testing to the community through our outdoor evaluation and testing centers. We will focus on testing AltaMed patients. Testing criteria has also been updated to allow for a uniform way to screen patients and has been communicated to clinic leaders in an email by Drs. Tiffany Demikolas and Sherrill Brown. The email has instructions for the new intake form meant to identify contagious individuals early and screen them appropriately. We will have two smaller evaluation centers available at AltaMed Medical and Dental Group – Commerce, Goodrich and AltaMed Urgent Care – Anaheim for testing.

The staff screening questions have also been updated in Qualtrics. Please make sure you are following the updated screening questions when screening staff as they come in for their shifts. Anyone who has been exposed to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 will need to quarantine and follow the return-to-work policies located on Town Square.
