Masks Still Required at AltaMed

Although the state reopened yesterday, AltaMed continues to require that employees and patients, even if they are fully vaccinated, wear masks at all times as they work in or visit an AltaMed facility.

We are waiting on the CDC and the California Department of Public Health to provide updated recommendations related to PPE in health care facilities. Once we have their guidance, we will share this with employees. Until then, there is no change to our current policies—you must continue to wear a mask at all times and maintain a physical distance from one another.

Please refer to the memo that was sent from Veronica Gomez, Vice President of Human Resources, on Monday, June 14 about our mask-wearing policy. Employees are required to follow all policies.

Crucial Conversations With Patients Regarding Vaccinations

At AltaMed, nearly 70% of patient visits are now face-to-face; however, only 20% of patients have been vaccinated. Therefore, it is important to have crucial conversations with each patient to remind and encourage them to get vaccinated.

All of our vaccination sites are open to members of the public, aged 12 or older. Continue to talk to your patients about getting the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as other vaccinations. Remember, there are no restrictions and there is no waiting period to get vaccinated.

  2. Maintain hand hygieneStaff should have easy access to hand sanitizer dispensers to clean hands frequently, and should wash their hands for 20 seconds at a time.
  3. Practice physical distancingStay six feet apart from other individuals whether inside or outside.
  4. Wipe down any work surfaces you touch.
  5. If employees need to be within six feet of someone for a prolonged period of time, wear a face shield and face mask in both administrative and clinical settings—avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. In addition, a face shield and face mask need to be worn at all times when interacting with patients.

Large Quantity of Disinfectant Wipes Donated to AltaMed

Spencer Health has generously donated more than 15 pallets of antibacterial wipes to AltaMed. These wipes can be used in offices or workspaces only; they are not to be used on medical or dental equipment which require specific cleaning wipes per manufacturer guidelines.

Departments can continue to place orders for disinfectant wipes with Supply Chain. These disinfectant wipes will then be delivered via interoffice courier at no cost and while supplies last.

Thank you to Development for their work garnering this generous donation.
