Importance of Boosters

General Colin Powell, a four-star general who became the first African-American secretary of State, died Monday due to complications from COVID-19. Although he was vaccinated, he had not received the booster as he was undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma (blood cancer) and for early stages of Parkinson's disease.

This is an important reminder to get the booster when its available. Additionally, we must continue to protect ourselves with such tools as the vaccines, wearing a mask, keeping our physical distance, and avoiding gatherings.
Moderna and Johnson & Johnson Booster News

The FDA’s independent advisory committee unanimously recommended the authorization of booster shots for Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for those over 65, as well as for those 16 to 64 who have medical conditions, and everyone 16 to 64 who is at increased risk for severe disease as a result of their occupational or institutional exposure.

The panel also recommended booster doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for adults, administered at least two months after receiving the initial shot.

Once the official approvals are received, we will plan accordingly on how to administer boosters to our staff and patients. Click here to read more.
Q: I reviewed the Face Masking Policy (#HR-WEL-007) and am uncertain about employees in Corporate offices sitting in cubicles. Can you confirm the masking policy for employees working in Corporate cubicles? Is working in a cubicle deemed an isolated workplace and, therefore, an exception to masking?

From the COVID-19 Response Team
A: Cubicles are considered shared spaces and, therefore, one needs to wear their mask at all times while sitting in a cubicle, unless taking it off briefly to take a sip of something or eat food. Private office spaces with doors closed are the only environments where you are able to sit with your mask off while alone in the office.
Staying Safe While at Work

  1. Wear your masks—Face masks are to be worn at all times over your nose and mouth (except when drinking or eating), and should be stored properly or discarded. Patients need to wear masks at all times in examination rooms as well.
  2. Maintain hand hygiene—Staff should have easy access to hand sanitizer dispensers to clean hands frequently, and should wash their hands for 20 seconds at a time.
  3. Practice physical distancing—Stay six feet apart from other individuals whether inside or outside.
  4. Wipe down any work surfaces you touch.
  5. If employees need to be within six feet of someone for a prolonged period of time, wear a face shield and face mask in both administrative and clinical settings—avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. In addition, a face shield and face mask need to be worn at all times when interacting with patients.
  6. Employees must wear appropriate PPE when on site.
