FACIAL COVERINGS ARE BEING EXPECTED AND REQUIRED: LEARN HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN

COMPASSION CENTER HERE TO HELP
Businesses are expecting
YOU
to wear SOMETHING covering NOSE AND MOUTH WHEN OUT FOR ESSENTIAL ACTIVITIES
OR AROUND PEOPLE

AND HOW TO MAKE AT HOME!

SOME STORES ACTUALLY REQUIRE IT! GOOD!

Personally, I think it should be mandatory – what about you?

QUESTION: DO I NEED TO WEAR A COVERING WHEN I GO OUT WALKING/RUNNING?

ANSWER: If you are going to be near others, YES. That means, if going to be on a crowded sidewalk and cannot maintain physical distancing, then YES.

Think about it – huffing and puffing as you train for your next/first 5K close to someone????

Idea from a Friend frustrated by too many people on running path too close to each other :

“IF YOU CAN READ MY SHIRT THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE A MASK ON!”

Sorry, yes, it is inconvenient but there are lots of inconveniences in this crisis. Some are minor and really not worth complaining about; some are actually major sacrifices causing great pain.

DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL INCONVENIENCES,
WORRY ABOUT THOSE ENDURING THE MAJOR SACRIFICES

NEW CITY EMERGENCY DECLARATION!

DO NOT IGNORE THIS DECLARATION
  • You could spread COVID-19 to others even if you do not feel sick.
  • Everyone should wear a cloth face cover when they have to go out in public, for example to the grocery store or to pick up other necessities.
  • DON’T USE MEDICAL MASKS THAT OUR FRONT LINE HEROES NEED!
  • Cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.

REMEMBER:
This is NOT a substitute for
MANDATORY Physical Distancing….

STAY HOME.
STAY PHYSICALLY SEPARATED WHEN OUT.
NOT ALL SHOPPING IS ESSENTIAL.
MAKE A LIST AND GO WHEN YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST.

SHOPPING IS NOT A FAMILY OUTING.

BE PATIENT AND MINDFUL THAT THOSE WORKING IN ESSENTIAL BUSINESSES ARE HEROES, TOO.

THEY DESERVE DIGNITY AND NEED YOUR HELP!

Read this heart-warming message from a 77-year old with COVID and in a Broward Hospital: Nurses are heroes, too!

WHO ARE YOU STAYING AT HOME FOR?

When you think about needing to stay at home or when you are telling someone else to stay at home,

WHO ARE YOU STAYING AT HOME FOR?

My list is so long but here is
my short list:

For:
Nurses, Doctors and cashiers I know
Police and Fire-Rescue I know
Friends who I Know who are at risk
Someone whose parents are at risk
All Their Families
All those I don’t know….
YOU!

Be Compassion and Empathy
Be Love, even when it is difficult or challenging.

(message interlude)

Hal (the co-owner of Oakland Village Square shopping center filled with so many dynamic and interesting (i.e. tasty and down-home) restaurants and businesses, and who cares deeply about his tenants) sent me note as to one thing he is doing through this stay-at-home crisis.

He has been working on their family tree for a few years, and finding ways to connect with distant family. This Saturday, they are hosting "virtual" family reunion, with 50 or more on Zoom … many who have never met before or knew they were part of the family tree.

Thanks for sharing Hal and can’t wait to hear all about it.

Area Agency on Aging of Broward County Program Announcement FOR SENIORS
What is ConnectingWithU?
ConnectingWithU  is a free, telephone reassurance service that provides emotional support for Seniors in Broward County.

ConnectingWithU  offers an individualized, emotionally safe space for Seniors to express their feelings and concerns while staying interconnected to others from the comfort of their own home.

ConnectingWithU calls can prevent Seniors from feeling isolated, becoming depressed, requiring medical services, or potentially institutional placement as a result of being disconnected from human interaction and emotional instability.

How does ConnectingWithU work?
ConnectingWithU  provides daily or weekly calls to Seniors to ensure their emotional and physical wellbeing. The calls offer peace of mind for Seniors who are lacking human interaction and socialization.

ConnectingWithU  also serves as a health and safety check and a helping hand to a senior to help them address unmet needs. In addition, if we are unsuccessful in connecting with the Senior after multiple phone attempts, we will ensure that the designated emergency contact(s) will be contacted and asked to check on the Senior's wellbeing. If no one can be reached, we will contact the appropriate agency to provide a home visit. *In some cases, we will call for dispatch emergency services to be rendered. *
Stay tuned for ConnectingWithU updates.
If you are interested in being a volunteer and join the ConnectingWithU Team, please call 954-745-9567 or email volunteers@adrcbroward.org
