Declaration of Emergency
ORDERING CLOSURES OF RESTAURANTS, BARS, CERTAIN BUSINESSES, GATHERINGS OF MORE THAN 10 PEOPLE AND SAWGRASS MILLS MALL
We are asking your assistance and cooperation during these difficult uncharted times. Sadly, We have had to take very painful and difficult action to protect our community, state and nation.

Effective 5 PM today, we have ordered the closures of the following:
All restaurants for in-service dining; take out and delivery permitted
All Bars
Designated types of businesses
Sawgrass Mills Mall
 
These measures are being put in place for the safety and well-being of our and neighboring communities, visitors, businesses and employees to help lessen the spread of COVID-19.

MORE STEPS MAY BE NECESSARY IF WE CANNOT ALL PITCH IN TOGETHER TO PRESERVE SOCIAL DISTANCING AND STOP THE SPREAD.
 
These measures are effective 5 PM today and will remain in effect through April 16, 2020:

1. All restaurants, cafeterias, and other food service establishments are mandated to cease all on-premises service. However, such establishments may continue to operate their kitchens for drive-thru , delivery, take-out, and exterior pickup food services.
 
2. All gyms, fitness centers, fitness studies, dance studios, and gymnasiums shall close. This regulation shall not apply to gymnasiums, fitness centers, and fitness studios which: (a) are amenities of hotels or office buildings and which have a capacity of 10 persons or less; and (b) are an amenity of residential buildings.
 
3. All bars, nightclubs, taverns, pubs, cocktail lounges, breweries, dance halls, movie theaters, halls for hire, auditoriums, bowling alleys, video arcades, and other like entertainment facilities and businesses, including but not limited to those contained within a hotel or other enclosed facility or structure, shall close.
 
4. All public gatherings of any type, whether organized or otherwise, of greater than 10 persons are prohibited. Grocery stores, gas stations, convenience stores, banks, credit unions, financial institutions, hardware stores, auto-supply stores, hospital, healthcare and medical facilities , pharmacies, drug stores, medical supply companies, land or facilities owned and managed by Broward County, the Broward County School Board, the North Broward Hospital District, the State of Florida, the Federal Government, and City of Sunrise are exempt for this regulation.

We want to thank the restaurant owners who have supported this effort. We know how much pain this will cause in our community.  

Our Commission and entire City Staff are already working on relief efforts, planning for how we can help our residents and businesses, and begging for Federal relief for our community.
