Dear Assumption Faculty and Staff,

I hope that you and your families continue to be healthy and safe.

As we all know, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant disruption to students and their families, in particular, with regard to their health and financial well-being. Even those families who carefully planned and saved for their son or daughter’s college education may find themselves adversely affected by this unprecedented pandemic, as it has paused the global economy, uniquely impacting many current and prospective Assumption families.

I am pleased to announce that the Trustees have authorized the establishment of a $3 million fund to provide additional financial aid to students whose families are facing financial hardship due to COVID-19 as a result of loss of employment, furloughs, reduction in hours and other factors. Returning students will soon be contacted by the Office of Financial Aid with application information. Prospective students with a demonstrated financial need are also eligible to apply for assistance.

Through the Assumption Coronavirus Financial Aid Relief Fund, eligible families may apply for room grants up to $8,500 and tuition grants up to $10,000 for the 2020-2021 Academic Year. Students returning to Assumption in the fall, as well as prospective students accepted to Assumption for the Class of 2024, are eligible to apply for these need-based, one-time financial aid grants. Since some families may not realize the long-term impact of the current economic situation for several weeks or a few months, Assumption will accept applications for assistance from this Fund throughout the 2020-2021 Academic Year.

This Fund demonstrates our commitment to provide additional financial resources for students, including members of the incoming Class of 2024, to pursue and achieve a college degree regardless of financial challenges during this unpredictable time.

Applications for financial assistance through the Assumption Coronavirus Financial Aid Relief Fund will consider the following as it relates to a student or an immediate family member:
  • Lost a job or was furloughed;
  • Reduction of hours; and
  • Inability to work due to diagnosis of coronavirus or caring for someone with the virus.

I would like to thank the Trustees for their support of this endeavor to ensure students may continue, or begin, their degree program and experience the transformative education for which the College is known. It is impressive and edifying to witness the collective response of the Assumption community during times of challenge to provide for students and their families in their time of need. It is a true reflection of the mission of Assumption and the College’s ability to form thoughtful and caring individuals.

Thank you for all you are doing during this time on behalf of our students.

Sincerely,
