Palmetto Bay is continuing to keep you informed of the latest information regarding the COVID-19 (Coronavirus), and proactive measures we are taking to help prevent the spread. While it is important to note that there have been no reported cases in Palmetto Bay, a
total of
42 Florida residents have now tested positive
in the state, with another three non-Florida residents testing positive. There have been two deaths in Florida related to COVID-19.
At this time,
all M-DCPS operations are active and ongoing,
including instructional programming, wi
th the exception of the
Ruth K. Broad/Bay Harbor
K-8 Center.
The school was ordered closed after
some students reportedly interacted with an employee of an offsite after-care program. The employee has tested positive for the virus.
Cancellations and Postponements
As always, your health and safety is our priority. In accordance with guidelines from the CDC, the Florida Department of Health and Miami-Dade County, please be advised of the following cancellations and postponements:
Parks and Recreation:
- The Palmetto Bay Girls Recreational Softball League has been Cancelled. All Palmetto Bay Girls Recreational Softball League games scheduled for today, Friday, March 13,2020 and Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Palmetto Bay Park are cancelled.
- The Orange Bowl Florida Fastpitch Invitational scheduled for March 19 - 21, 2020 has been postponed.
- Spring Break week Tennis Camp has been cancelled.
- All Palmetto Bay Senior programming at Perrine Community House has been cancelled for March, including Baptist Exercise Class, Tai-Chi, and Yoga.· The ArtSouth Art Exhibit scheduled for March 21st at Perrine Community House has been postponed.
- At Ludovici Park, all Baptist Health Stretch & Relaxation Classes have been cancelled.
- At Coral Reef Park, the American Cancer Society has postponed this Saturday's Relay for Life, Shamrock in the Park.
- It was announced that the Deering Seafood Festival scheduled for March 29th and Chef’s Table on the Bay scheduled for March 27th at the Deering Estate are postponed until further notice.
At Village Hall:
- All task force and committee meetings for March are cancelled, including Charter Review Commission.
- The Zoning Hearing scheduled for March 16th has been postponed until April 20th.
- The Committee of the Whole meeting scheduled for March 17th has been postponed until April 21st.
- All Palmetto Bay Senior programming at Perrine Community House has been cancelled for March, including Baptist Exercise Class, Tai-Chi, and Family Yoga.
- The ArtSouth Art Show scheduled for March 21st at Perrine Community House has been postponed.

In Addition:

Village Safety Measures
- All employee training and conferences have been canceled to limit exposure.
- Employees are encouraged to not shake hands with anyone to prevent the potential spread of the virus
- To the extent possible, employees will schedule conference calls in lieu of face to face meetings.
- Placed hand sanitizers in all restrooms; will be replenishing the paper towel dispenser since new guidance is recommending staying away from hand air dryers
- Provided disinfecting wipes to all departments. Janitorial staff is cleaning door handles on a daily basis, but we are asking that you wipe down your keyboards and clean your phones a few times a day. Please also wipe down any surface that comes into contact with the general public as janitorial staff is only here once a day. Let Karla know if you need more supplies.
- Posted informational posters in all public restrooms, water fountain areas and all departments
Recommended Prevention Practices
- Hand washing with soap and water for 20 seconds or use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- Avoid close contact or sharing cups or eating utensils with people who are sick
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze then throw the tissue in the trash
- Avoid crowded places
- Avoid hand-shaking
