Important Message from the Early Learning Coalition of Broward County:
Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Hello Provider,

As the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to be a concern across the nation, we want to ensure you, your staff and the families you serve are properly informed. Currently there is no vaccine to prevent COVID-19, however, much like similar respiratory viruses, there are effective steps you can take to stay healthy and help prevent the virus from spreading.

Join us at our next Provider Learning and Networking (PLAN) Meeting on Wednesday, March 18. A representative from the Department of Health and local licensing will be facilitating a brief presentation on COVID-19. This is a great opportunity for educators to learn about any new updates and how COVID-19 may affect their centers or facilities. RSVP by clicking the button below.

If you are unable to attend the meeting but would like to listen in, you can join from your computer, tablet or smartphone using the login information:
or dial in +1 (786) 535-3211.
COVID-19 Resources

Below, we’ve provided informative resources about how to plan, prepare and respond to COVID-19. We urge you to share this information with your families so that they can implement these preventative measures at home as well.

  • Broward County Schools FAQs – While some of the information may not apply to your center, you’ll find great tips on ways to protect you, your staff and children from spreading any potential viruses in the classroom.

  • Child Care Licensing – If you have any questions or concerns about potential illness-related closures, please contact Child Care Licensing at 954-357-4800. Please note, the ELC has no authority to require a provider to close their center or determine when they should reopen. This decision is made by the Child Care Licensing office.

  • The Florida Department of Health has set-up a hotline for those with questions about COVID-19 (Coronavirus). It opened March 2, 2020 and is operational Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. The phone number is 1-866-779-61621 or you can email [email protected]

We’re also seeking guidance from the Office of Early Learning (OEL) regarding reimbursements for centers who may have to close as a precaution or in the event of an actual virus exposure. Once OEL provides us with instructions, we will be sure to communicate this to all of our child care providers.

Lastly, we will continue to work with our local, state and national partners to monitor the recommendations identified by the Florida Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to keep our employees, clients and their families safe during a very active virus season.

Stay safe,
ELC of Broward
