Key Workers - Dealing with requests
From time to time you may get booking requests for key workers during the closure notice period. There are clear rules that must be followed by businesses that are able to accommodate key workers during the Closure Notice Period:

  • If businesses are approached independently to take a booking from a key worker or other vulnerable group, they must first give the information about the booking to your Local Authority's Public Protection Team who will determine whether or not an exemption certificated can be issued. No booking should be taken unless this certificate is in place.

  • If your business is approached and you are unable to take a key worker booking, you can if you wish refer the key worker to your Local Authority who keep a list of accommodation which has been offered in these circumstances.

  • If a tourism accommodation business wishes to offer their accommodation for key workers and be kept on the Council’s list which is shared with the local Health Board as required, you can email the information about your property to your Local Authority

Important note - No booking should be taken unless an exemption certificate has been issued by your Local Authority and this will be issued on a case by case basis. Local Authority contact details are:

COVID-19 - Sentiment Tracker
Highlights from this weeks report includes:

  • A big step forward for domestic tourism - There is a second consecutive notable increase in the proportion of those active in the travel market who say they will plan a UK holiday in the next 1 – 3 months.

  • Visitor attractions record third consecutive week of shortening lead-times - 27% of our ‘travel activist’ sub-sample intend to take a day out at an attraction within the next 3 months.

  • Anticipated rail travel rises - we record the highest level of intention to use rail services among our travel-orientated sub-sample since start of tracking.

Important Changes to Furlough Scheme
From 1 July 2020, employers can bring back to work employees that have previously been furloughed for any amount of time and any shift pattern, while still being able to claim CJRS grant for their normal hours not worked.

When claiming the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) grant for furloughed hours employers will need to report and claim for a minimum period of a week.

  • The scheme will close to new entrants from 30 June 2020. From this point onwards, employers will only be able to furlough employees that they have furloughed for a full 3 week period prior to 30 June 2020.

  • This means that the final date by which an employer can furlough an employee for the first time will be 10 June 2020, in order for the current 3 week furlough period to be completed by 30 June.

  • Employers will have until 31 July 2020 to make any claims in respect of the period to 30 June 2020.
