FMCSA SuspendsTrucking Hours of Service Rules

AfA Joins Effort Urging FMC to Stop Punitive Port Box Fees

Delta Cargo Offers Planes for Cargo Charter

Have You Completed the AfA Coronavirus Impact Survey?

Hello,

Since the coronavirus impact on our industry is rapidly changing, we wanted to make sure that you were aware of a few significant developments.

As a reminder, if you have not completed our quick coronavirus impact survey, we urge you to to do so now so that we may share the anonymous results with the media, regulatory agencies, Capitol Hill and the White House.

  • The Federal Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) temporarily suspended the trucking hours of service rules for those providing help for the coronavirus. The exemption order covers those transporting medical supplies and equipment related to COVID-19 testing, diagnosis, and treatment or for use by heath care workers, patients, or for community safety. Click here for more information .
  • Last week, our friends at the Agriculture Transportation Coalition (AgTrans) invited us to join a group of shippers, freight forwarders and other liner industry stakeholders in urging the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) to pass into law the interpretive rule it has drawn up on demurrage and detention practices in the US. Our primary concern is that in light of the coronavirus situation, ocean carriers are imposing demurrage fees even when the container is not physically available to be picked up, and detention fees when the terminal is not accessible for the container to be returned. For more information about the Rule and to see AfA's previously submitted comments, click here.
  • We received word late yesterday that Delta Airlines Cargo would be offering their jets for cargo charters between 13 U.S. airports and 70 international destinations. Click here for more information.
Finally, we received a message from the U.S. Department of Commerce this morning asking for our feedback on the impact the travel ban is having on AfA member cargo operations. Since AfA holds a seat on the agency's Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness, our feedback is important and will likely be shared with the White House so please complete the survey and of course,  feel free to call us at any time at  202-577-9536.

Thank you.
