Coronavirus Update, RE: New Preparedness Planning Actions Steps
Dear Families,
Thank you for your support and patience as we work to provide accurate and timely information regarding St. John’s and the highly fluid coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. We continually gather information in order to make the best possible decisions to ensure the wellbeing of our school community. At this time,
there are no reported cases, reported symptoms, or reported contact with anyone with COVID-19 at St. John’s.
As our community heads into spring break, we want to communicate our latest plans. These plans are geared towards addressing a number of different scenarios, including preventative measures, as well as possible responses to a confirmed case of COVID-19. At this time, neither state nor local agencies have recommended closing schools. As things stand, it is our intention to reopen all three campuses to students on Tuesday, March 24. However, our planning is and will remain flexible to address this continually changing situation. Circumstances may yet dictate a closing of our campuses immediately following spring break, and we strongly encourage parents to proactively plan for the possibility - however undesirable - of a school closure and remote learning for a yet-to-be-determined period of time.
Our planning is guided primarily by the
Center for Disease Control (CDC), the
World Health Organization (WHO), the
Florida Department of Health, the
Florida Council for Independent Schools (FCIS), and other state and local agencies. After spring break, beginning Monday, March 23, and based on the recommendations of these bodies, St. John’s is implementing a specific procedure for
any student, employee, or another person who needs to come to St. John’s and meets any one of these requirements:
Has traveled out of the country or gone on a cruise within the past 14 days, OR
Believes they may have been in contact with a person who has tested positive for coronavirus/COVID-19, OR
Believes they may have symptoms of coronavirus/COVID-19 (fever, cough or shortness of breath)
Any person who fits any one of those three requirements MUST immediately contact St. John’s ([email protected], 813.570.4463).
Depending on the situation and risk factors, the school
MAY direct you to contact your doctor or the Florida Department of Health for guidance on when you are able to return to school.
As a precautionary measure, all non-essential or non-required volunteers and visitors should reschedule plans with the School until further notice.
We continue to prepare for a range of possible scenarios following the CDC-recommended diagram below. Thank you for your continued support during this time. We hope you enjoy a relaxing and safe spring break.
