Good afternoon Gilpin Hall Family,
Even though the lives of our residents and staff have changed dramatically over the past weeks, new practices and procedures for the delivery of care, put in place for the well-being of all, now seem more familiar. However, knowing that nothing can take the place of face to face contact with loved ones, we look forward to a time when we can welcome you back through our doors!
Maintaining the level of activity and human interaction to which our residents are accustomed is not possible during this time of isolation, quarantine and distancing. In an attempt to make up for this, we are doing a variety of things. For example, we are adding more “theme days” to our menu – May 7
th will be “Ball Park Day”, when our menu will include hot dogs and cheese steaks with choice of toppings (sauerkraut, chili, onions, cheese sauce, ketchup, mustard and relish), to be served with homemade old bay potato chips and cole slaw. Going along with the theme, staff has been asked to wear ball park gear that day. Ice cream novelties and hot, fresh baked cookies are also being delivered regularly to all residents.
Sophomores and juniors from Salesianum School are participating in a Pen Pal Program. Students are corresponding with specific residents by emailing letters and artwork that we are printing and giving to the resident. Staff then assists the resident in responding. Also, our Activity Director is facilitating approximately 20 Skype or telephone calls per day and has spoken to family and friends as far away as Alaska and Hawaii. Please be reminded that appointments can be made by contacting us at
We continue to have no residents or staff who have tested positive for COVID-19. In an abundance of caution, we are testing residents and staff members who display any one symptom of the virus and will keep you informed as testing occurs.
Be well and thank you for your continuing support.
