Coronavirus COVID-19
Update

April 3, 2020

Dear Gilpin Hall Family,

Good afternoon and we hope this finds you doing well!

We know that this is a very difficult and uncertain time for you and we want to assure you that we are doing as much as we can to reduce the risk of COVID19 exposure at Gilpin Hall.

Along with efforts described in previous correspondence, we are doing the following:

1)     Effective Wednesday, April 1 st, all direct care staff members are required to wear a mask at all times. Gloves are also required for direct patient care, which has always been our procedure. In an effort to conserve protective equipment, non-direct care staff is required to wear cloth masks, which have been made and donated by family members – thank you, we are very grateful!  Other protective equipment, such as gowns and face shields, is being used as required by resident condition.

2)     We are monitoring and complying with all of the ever-changing CDC and Delaware Department of Health guidelines for resident care.

3)     We are screening every person coming into the building and recording answers to very specific coronavirus related questions, as well as their temperature. As hand-washing is a priority, we have installed a hand-washing station in the front lobby. All are required to wash their hands prior to passing the front desk. Alcohol based hand sanitizer is also available upon entrance.

4)     Even though accepting care packages delivered to the facility by family and friends is no longer permitted, we will accept items mailed to residents. This policy has greatly limited the number of times our nursing staff must leave the resident care areas, which was reducing valuable time spent with your loved ones.

5)     To the extent possible, trips to the emergency department have been reduced; residents who have been in the hospital for any reason are being isolated for 14 days upon their return.

6)     Please be reminded that appointments can be made to Skype with your loved on by contacting us at info@gilpinhall.org.

Again, we thank you very much for your continuing cooperation and please direct any questions to us at info@gilpinhall.org.

Sincerely,
Linda Schwind
