Coronavirus COVID-19

Dear Gilpin Hall Family,

               Good afternoon and I trust this finds you well and looking forward to getting out and enjoying the beautiful weather predicted for the weekend! 

               CMS, along with the CDC, is now requiring that we keep you informed:  (1) when we have a single confirmed infection of COVID-19; or, (2) when we have three or more residents or staff with new on-set of respiratory symptoms occurring within 72-hours of each other. We are required to provide this information to residents and resident representatives by 5:00 p.m. on the next calendar day following the occurrence. 

               If we remain COVID-19 negative, as we still are as of this writing, this will, of course, not apply. However, as we are preparing to begin testing of asymptomatic residents, this could quickly change. Therefore, due to the strict time requirement, the most efficient method of reporting will be by sending an email though Constant Contact. Unlike our regular updates, this will include statistical information only, unless further explanation of data is needed. 

               With regard to testing of asymptomatic residents, we are in the process of obtaining consent for testing from residents or their responsible party. We plan to begin systematic testing next week and want to make you aware of some things that may occur should we receive positive results. First, any resident or staff member that has had close contact with a COVID-19 positive resident will also be tested to determine if they have been exposed. Further, in line with guidance from Delaware Public Health, residents testing positive for COVID-19 will be cohorted in an area designated to serve these residents, with care being provided by designated staff. Residents will be closely monitored and may be moved back to their rooms only when deemed safe using guidelines from CMS, the CDC and Delaware Public Health. 

               On a happier note, on Mother’s Day we made 61 calls to residents’ children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. I am so thankful we have the technology to make this happen!!
