Dear Neighbors, 

We know that this has been a difficult time for our entire community, and are so grateful to each and every one of you who are staying home, and to those of you who are front line workers and first responders who are out every day supporting our community.

The Mayor's office has made two important announcements that we want to share with you immediately:

  • Starting tomorrow, May 6, everyone is required to wear a mask when in public indoor spaces, including public transportation.

  • As of Saturday, May 9th, Denver will be moving to a Safer-at-Home order. This means that generally, you should still plan to stay home unless absolutely necessary, but non-essential businesses will begin to reopen.

Please read on for more specific information about what is to come. Although there are still a number of decisions yet to be made about larger-scale events, we hope this information will provide a bit of guidance. Thank you to all who are doing your part to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We wish you and your families health and safety. Together we will get through this.

What Will Life Look Like in Denver Starting May 9th?

The Mayor's Office has provided us the following guidance on Denver's Safer-at-Home order, which begins at 12 am on Saturday, May 9th. For more specific information, please go to the City's Recovery Guidance & Planning page .

General Requirements for the Public:
  • As of May 6th, face coverings are required for customers of businesses, government services, mass transit, and ride-share users
  • No gatherings of over 10 people are allowed through May 26th

The Following Businesses Can REOPEN as of Saturday, May 9th (with 50% employees and 6-foot social distancing requirements in place) :
  • Non-critical retail such as clothing, home goods, cell phone carriers
  • Personal services such as hair/nail salons, tattoo parlors, pet groomers, and personal trainers (by appointment only, no walk-ins)
  • Non-critical offices
  • Field services such as in-person real-estate showings
  • Healthcare providers (by appointment only, no walk-ins)
  • Post-secondary education

The Following Businesses Will Remain CLOSED as of May 9th:
  • Sit-down service in restaurants, bars, coffeehouses, and other places of public accommodation
  • Movie theaters
  • Live-performance theaters
  • Concert venues
  • Sports arenas
  • Gyms and yoga and fitness studios
  • Shopping malls
  • Outdoor City facilities such as playgrounds, swimming pools, and tennis and basketball courts
  • City recreation centers and libraries

Having an accurate understanding of Denver’s population and its diverse communities will help us plan for the next decade. You might find answering questions about yourself tedious or unimportant in these challenging times, but we want to know about you in order to secure you and your community adequate services in the future. As just one example, having an accurate census count ensures we get our full share of federal stimulus money - which is over $8000 per person.
