  • Governor Hochul announced that community organizations such as the Asian American Federation (AAF), Coalition for Asian American Children and Families, and Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) will receive a total of $10 million in funding to assist Asian Americans. Read more here.
  • The governor announced that she has signed legislation (A.9283, Peoples-Stokes) which creates a new Conditional Adult-use Cannabis Cultivator License.
  • This license gives existing New York hemp farmers the ability to grow cannabis in the 2022 growing season. Read more here.
  • Governor Hochul announced that $1.5 million in federal funding is available under the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant (SABG).
  • The funding will assist in allowing providers to expand telehealth services for addiction treatment. Read more here.

  • Mayor Adams hosted a meeting with Jewish community leaders to discuss the rise of antisemitic hate crimes. Read more here.
  • The mayor announced a new subway safety plan to address homelessness in NYC subway stations that will involve sending teams of cops, mental health workers, and homeless services specialists throughout the transit system. Read more here.

  • Biden administration officials informed members of Congress that they need at least $5 billion in additional funds to keep battling the Covid-19 pandemic overseas. Read more here.
  • A foundation has been established to honor the late Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) and his wife, Lillian Miles Lewis. Read more here.
  • Federal lawmakers are calling for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to address a backlog of tax returns and improve customer service. Read more here.
  • Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, who is also the House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairwoman, introduced legislation that honors female suffragists.
  • The bill would restore the original inscription from a statue on display in the Capitol Rotunda.

The Regular Arrears Supplement Benefit program will provide up to $10,000 for eligible families who are behind on their heating bills.
  • The benefit is delivered in the form of a one-time payment made directly to the utility provider. Click here for more information.
The Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) helps low income households pay the cost of drinking water and wastewater services.
  • The program can assist households who have past due bills (arrears) for drinking water and/or wastewater services. Click here for more information on how to apply.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free basic tax return preparation for qualified individuals at a number of different sites across New York.

NYC SMALL BUSINESS RESOURCE NETWORK
The NYC Small Business Resource Network is a unique private/public partnership that provides our local businesses with the free, personalized guidance they need right now to survive the pandemic. If you have a small business, you can sign up for this network today.

Once you fill out the brief intake form, you will be matched with a business support specialist. Through this program, all five borough Chambers of Commerce have specialists offering one-on-one support to businesses in their boroughs.
 
The program is funded by a $2.8 million grant from the New York City-based Peter G. Peterson Foundation and supported by in-kind contributions from other partners, this collaboration, led by the Partnership for New York City, the NYC Economic Development Corporation and all five Chambers of Commerce, leverages the city’s corporate, financial and professional services sectors, as well as universities, philanthropies and expert volunteers to help small business owners gain access to a range of programs and services.
