Dear AWS Community,

I felt it was time for an update, even though the links I shared with you on 1/29 are still valid and included below.

Coronavirus is now present in the U.S.A., and symptoms are similar to that of the flu, which is also still very much in full swing with AWS having two new cases diagnosed just last week. All programs have been affected by the flu this school year, and teachers have stepped up infection control measures in their classrooms.

The most important action we can take is to frequently wash hands with soap and water, stay home when sick, and cover coughs/sneezes or do this into a bent elbow .

If you are traveling during Spring Break or otherwise, please check the CDC Travelers website linked in the CDC Travelers button for updated information and advisories. It may help the school if you report your travel plans via email . I also ran across an NPR article on travel that may help.

Remember that students take their emotional cues from the adults around them. It is easy to incite anxiety, even by putting a new bottle of surface cleaner in the classroom! We encourage you to monitor your child's engagement in the topic and help them understand what they are seeing and hearing to avoid anxiety, yet another reason for students to be screen-free. Being prepared is not a cause for panic or alarm.

Please call on us if you have any concerns,
Lisa Grupe, Ph.D.
