PROVINCIAL TOURISM CONFERENCE & MEETINGS

Last week, Jikke Gyorki, Executive Officer of Tourism Fernie, travelled to Kelowna to attend key meetings and the BC Tourism Industry Conference. One of the most important investments of time and resources for the organization. The learning, exchange of knowledge, partnership and relationship development, and advocacy opportunities support Tourism Fernie's current and future goals and objectives.

RMI Meeting on March 4th with Ministry, Municipalities & DMOs.

This was the first time BC's 14 Resort Municipalities Initiative (RMI) community partners came together to support destination development and management, the tourism economy and visitor experience, and to explore how to improve synergies and reduce silos in the work everyone does. Over 25 stakeholders met and plan to continue the great momentum.

Meeting of all Community DMOs Across BC on March 3rd.

The BC DMO Association is a group of over 50 organizations like Tourism Fernie & Tourism Vancouver, that work together on issues and opportunities (i.e. hotel tax, tourism sustainability) related to tourism in communities and DMOs.

Jikke is the Chair of the BC DMO Association, a strategic position to support tourism in Fernie.

FERNIE AWARDED GREENSTEP BRONZE CERTIFICATION

Fernie has achieved GreenStep Bronze Certification, an important milestone that recognises our community’s commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism. This certification reflects the collective efforts of many local partners and highlights Fernie’s dedication to protecting our natural environment while strengthening our visitor economy.

Tourism Fernie led the extensive certification process, coordinating the detailed assessment, gathered data, and worked closely with GreenStep to ensure Fernie met the program’s rigorous sustainability standards. The certification helps Fernie remain competitive as more travellers actively seek destinations that prioritise sustainability.

Tourism businesses across British Columbia are encouraged to participate in the 2026 Tourism Climate Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability Business Survey, delivered by Destination BC in collaboration with BC Tourism Climate Resiliency Initiative (BCTCRI) partners. The survey is open for a limited time and gathers input on climate risk preparedness, environmental sustainability practices and related investments.

The results will strengthen provincial, regional and sector-level insights shared with industry. The survey takes approximately 5–10 minutes to complete and should be completed by one person per business who is familiar with operational practices related to climate adaptation and environmental sustainability. Participating businesses will be entered into a draw for a pass to a tourism conference in BC.
