The Cougar Connection
The mission of Corpus Christi Catholic School is to nurture every child by providing the opportunities to grow in faith, achieve academic success, and serve others as disciples of Jesus
August 17, 2020
Dear Families,

What an exciting first few days we have had at Corpus Christi Catholic School! We are committed to working with our parents in a partnership to carry out the mission of our school, and parent communication is an aspect of this partnership. The school's primary way to communicate with parents is through our "Cougar Connection’’ electronic newsletter. This newsletter is sent electronically on a biweekly basis. You also can find archived links on our school website.
Bible Verse
Each Month students learn a Bible Verse. We recite it together at school during our morning prayers. We also pray a particular prayer together each month. During the month of August our verse is:

Psalm 119:105:   “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”

Our prayer focus is the Our Father.

We would love for you to practice the verse with your children at home.
Parent Student Waiver Due to COVID19
Please see the below waiver that the Archdiocese is asking all parents to complete. It is a fillable form. You may print out the form and return it, or save it and send to my email,  Only one form per family is required. Please return by Friday, August 21.

Student Handbook
Each year we have parents read our parent-student handbook together with their students. You can find our handbook on our website and it has also been uploaded to Rediker. After reviewing the handbook with your students, please fill out the form below. This form also includes acknowledgement of our Acceptable Use Policy. You may read it here:

After reviewing both documents with your student, please access the acknowledgement form below. Please complete and submit by Friday, August 21.

**Be aware that until further notice our return to school plan currently supersedes our handbook concerning procedures relating to arrival, dismissal, lunch, and student illness.
In keeping with the Catholic social justice theme of the Life and Dignity of the Human Person, we believe that every life is precious. We will continue to celebrate that by honoring our students' birthdays over our daily announcements. When we can all be at Mass together again, we will recognize our birthdays on a weekly basis.
School Mass
Next week we will begin our weekly Mass schedule. As a result of COVID, students will be going to Mass as a larger grade level cohort and sitting with their homeroom class. Students will be separated from parishioners, and we ask that parents not sit with students as well. Students will not walk up and receive communion, rather teachers who are Eucharistic Ministers will be bringing the Eucharist to students where they are sitting.

Mass begins at 8:15 and grade levels will go on the following days:
● Tuesday-K-2
● Wednesday -3-4
● Friday-6-8
Virtual Open House -August 25
We are unable to host our traditional open house this year. Instead, teachers will be posting information that is normally shared during the meeting beforehand. We ask that parents look through that information, and join a virtual meeting with your child’s teacher to address any questions you may have. Teachers will be hosting two meetings, one at 6:00 p.m. and another at 6:30 p.m. Individual teachers will be sharing meeting ID information with you soon.
Rediker--Student Information System
Rediker is the student management system that is used by all Archdiocesan elementary schools. You can access Rediker to see your student’s grades and other important information. An electronic calendar can be found on the Rediker home page. Please refer to it for any upcoming important dates and events. If you have not received your Rediker login information, or need assistance logging in, you may email me at or Mrs. Merritt at We are happy to assist you.
Google Classroom
Instructions for logging into Google Classroom were sent home the first day of school, and also emailed the following day. If you have not signed up to get parent emails sent from Google Classroom and need assistance doing so, please contact Mrs. Merritt,
Lexington Independents (formally Valley Services) is the food service provider at CCS. Below is the link to their website where you can make deposits into your child’s account and view the monthly menu. This online service also has a “low balance” notification option so that you receive an email when your child’s account drops below a certain amount. Parents can send checks or cash to the school for the cafeteria to collect daily. Please make checks payable to Lexington Independents and make sure your check or cash is properly labeled with your child’s name or lunch account number.

A is for Africa--Just 25
We will once again partner with A is for Africa in support of the Matim Primary School. Students are encouraged to bring in .25 cents on the 25th (or weekday closest to the 25th) of each month. Our first Just 25 date will be next Tuesday, August 25.

Our school will also once again participate in the Blessings in a Backpack program. Through this ministry, we will help provide meals for students in need on the weekends. Students are asked to bring donations in on the first Friday of each month. Our first Food Pantry Friday of the new school year will be Friday, September 4. The donations are distributed through the direction of our St. Vincent de Paul society. This year, students who donate items may wear their CCS spirit shirt with jeans or shorts (no shorts or athletic pants in Middle School) The following items are requested for the September collection:

School Calendar
Remember that you can always access our online school calendar via this link from our website:

Once on the page, you will need to scroll to the bottom to access the online calendar.
In the event of the threat of severe weather that could lead to an early dismissal, please monitor the local news. It is important to remember that Catholic Schools do not always do the same thing as public schools. If a decision is made for our schools, please know that you will get a phone call, email, and a text message through our student management program. Let’s pray that severe weather will not be a threat to us this school year.

As always we are still doing the box tops for education program. While there will be fewer paper box tops to turn in there are still plenty of items we get credit for if you just scan your receipts!

The totals on the app are showing from only scanned items only. If you still have some of the paper box tops, please turn them in. We still have deadlines for submitting paper box tops.

If you are not using the box tops for education app please consider doing so. This is free money for the school and all you have to do is scan your receipt.
The app is very easy to use and had lots of bonuses.

Stay tuned for contest details for this year.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
