Cougar Connection
The mission of Corpus Christi Catholic School is to nurture every child by providing the opportunities to grow in faith, achieve academic success, and serve others as disciples of Jesus
April 27, 2020
Dear Parents,
Upon receiving the letter from Superintend Ms. Byrd that was shared last week, we are all officially aware that we will not be returning to our school building this year, and we continue to move forward with our distance learning plans.

We miss our students, and I am sure your children miss their friends and the structure that school provides.  We have long recognized that parents are the primary educators of their children, and we have always been committed to working with you in a partnership to carry out the mission of our school. However, this statement seems to have never been more true. In order for our distance learning program to be successful, it requires our teachers, students, and parents to work together as a team.

During this time that we are unable to be in school together, we appreciate the support you all are giving to our school, our teachers, and the distance learning program that we are providing for our students. You all remain in our prayers.
Distance Learning Website
If you are seeking classroom codes or in need of tutorial resources for Google Classroom, remember that we have a distance learning website that you may find of assistance. You can access the website here:

From our Counselor Ms. Smith
During this time of uncertainty and social distancing, we know our students may be experiencing heightened feelings of anxiety and uneasiness. Please know that Ms. Smith continues to be available for our students and their families during this time. Feel free to contact her via email,
Bible Verse of the Month
Our Bible verse focus for the month of April is: Matthew 22:37

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.”

Our prayer focus is The Divine Praises

Blessed be God. Blessed be His Holy Name. Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Man. Blessed be the Name of Jesus. Blessed be His Most Sacred Heart. Blessed be His Most Precious Blood. Blessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete. Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most Holy. Blessed be her Holy and Immaculate Conception. Blessed be her Glorious Assumption. Blessed be the Name of Mary, Virgin and Mother. Blessed be St. Joseph, her most chaste spouse. Blessed be God in His Angels and in His Saints.

Our Bible verse focus for the month of May is :  Proverbs 3:6

“In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.”

Our prayer focus is the Hail Mary:

Hail Mary, Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Cougar Virtual Field Day Fun - this Friday
With our official announcement of not returning to school, we know we will not be able to make up our field day this year. We would love for our students to take pictures/record videos recalling or even recreating their favorite field day event from the past. You can post this to our Cougar Connection Family Facebook page and/or email your pictures and videos to sgillis@

A note about field day shirts: Field Day t-shirt orders were processed before we knew we would not be returning to school. Our head room mother picked up the shirts and they will be distributed to families when it is safe to do so. We will have some days in the fall when we can wear our shirts to school.
May Crowning - May 2 and 3
May is a month that we honor Mary and traditionally we have our students participate in our May Crowning Ceremony. Since we can’t all be together at school, families are welcome to honor the Blessed Mother by placing homemade flowers, handpicked flowers, store-bought flowers or artificial flowers near the grotto.

This should be a prayerful moment for your family.  If other families are present when you arrive, we ask that you observe social distancing and remain in your car until it is time to place your flowers near the Blessed Mother.
Blessings in a Backpack Ministry
As you know, our school participates in the Blessings in a Backpack program. Through this ministry, we help provide meals for students in need. The members of our St. Vincent de Paul society have continued to distribute the backpacks to students during this time when we have not been at school. They are in need of food donations and are asking for the items listed below. If you are able to make a donation, you can leave the items on the St. Vincent de Paul Society table in the church vestibule.

Needed items:
  • Jars of jelly
  • Fruit cups
  • Canned spaghetti (i.e., Chef Boyardee)
  • Oatmeal or grits
Teacher Appreciation Week
Our teachers work hard to inspire and motivate our students every day - even from afar during this time of distance learning. Teacher Appreciation Week will be observed May 4-8, and we have a plan to show appreciation for our teachers from afar. I will be emailing parents with more information later this week.
Spring pictures and yearbooks
We have received a few inquires about spring pictures and yearbooks. When there are more directives from local, state, and national officials about being able to safely convene again, we will send information about how you can pick-up your child's spring pictures and yearbook.
Whole Kids Garden Grant
Our school has been awarded a $3,000.00 garden grant on behalf of Whole Foods/Whole Kids foundation. This grant money is to be used by students in developing an edible educational garden project for the upcoming school year! We are grateful to have been chosen by the Whole Kids Foundation to provide this educational opportunity for our students. We are also grateful for the work of parent Toni Marie Charbonnet who orchestrated the grant application process to benefit our school.
Administrative Professional Day
April 22 was Administrative Professional day! The two wonderful ladies that work in our school office, Miss Chris and Mrs. Foley, were treated to a special lunch in their honor. We are so blessed to have them at our school...we wouldn't know what to do without them!
Virtual Scholar’s Bowl Match
Recently, some of our Scholars Bowl team members participated in a virtual match with schools from across the country. It was hosted by Avery Enterprises and our team finished 24th out of 60 participating schools.

Corpus Christi Parish News
Statement by Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi
The suspension of public worship services and most church activities in the Catholic churches of the Archdiocese of Mobile is extended through April 18, 2020. The original suspension was announced on March 17.

This means that public Easter services will not be celebrated in our Catholic churches.

This is a most painful decision. Not only is Easter a time of celebration, even more importantly, the Resurrection of Our Lord is at the core of our Christian faith. However, this action is taken in the interest of the common good of our communities and is in accord with the advice of civil authorities.
Online Masses
Corpus Christi Sunday Masses are now posted online. You can view them at the link below;

In addition, 8 a.m. Daily Mass with Archbishop Rodi is available on Facebook at The Catholic Week page: week. You do NOT need a Facebook account. Scroll down the screen, and click “Not Now” when prompted to join.
