The Cougar Connection
The mission of Corpus Christi Catholic School is to nurture every child by providing the opportunities to grow in faith, achieve academic success, and serve others as disciples of Jesus
February 8, 2021
Dear Parents,

What a wonderful time we had last week celebrating Catholic Schools Week. We are thankful for the speakers we had that contributed to the week, each highlighting a special facet of our faith. On behalf of our faculty and staff, I want to thank our PTO and families for the wonderful sign, teacher snacks, and drinks, as well as our delicious lunch last week. We are thankful to be your partners in your child’s education.

We will have a noon dismissal this Friday, February 12. The school will be closed on Monday, February 15, and on Tuesday, February 16, for our Mardi Gras holidays. As we celebrate Mardi Gras very differently this year, we also remember that it is the time to prepare our hearts for Lent. We will return to school on Wednesday, February 17.
Sincerely,

Bible Verse
Our Bible verse focus for the month of February is Matthew 6:33.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Our prayer focus is the Angel of God prayer.
Out of Uniform Friday and More
Students are able to come out of uniform this Friday wearing Mardi Gras colors. Middle school students should not wear shorts or athletic pants.

A few other notes on Friday:
  • Students in K-5 will enjoy a Covid-friendly Mardi Gras Parade hosted by the 4th grade. The parade begins at 10:30.
  • It is a noon dismissal day and we will dismiss at the following times:
  • K-2: 11:45
  • 3-5: 12:00
  • 6-8: 12:15
Ash Wednesday
Unlike past years, we will not celebrate Mass together on Ash Wednesday. Even though 3-5 grade students typically attend Mass on Wednesday, they will not attend on Ash Wednesday. However, our teachers who are Eucharistic ministers will be distributing ashes to all of our students, visiting the back doors of each classroom.
Changes to our Lunch Program
Our food service provider is making the change to online orders only. Parents will be able to order lunches in advance and you will have until 11:59 p.m. each night to preorder for the next day. This change will begin next Wednesday when we return from our Mardi Gras break. This will be the last week to place orders at school. All parents will be receiving an email from Lexington Food Service Director, Alexis Davis, with information about creating an online account and instructions on how to place your order.

If you have questions concerning lunch orders, please contact Alexis Davis with Lexington, as this is a separate business from our school:

A note about lunch deliveries
There has been an abundance of parents dropping off fast food lunches to be delivered to students in their classrooms on a daily basis. While it is understood that students may forget their lunch from time to time, the practice of delivering lunch should be the exception, not the norm. It causes unnecessary traffic in the office and also can cause interruptions in the classroom. Please refrain from making this a daily practice for your child.
Math-a-Thon
We are so proud of the spirit of giving among our students and families. During our recent Math-a-Thon, our students raised $3,079.00 for the patients at St. Jude Hospital.
IOWA Test
The Iowa Test of Basic Skills will be given March 10-25. Please do not schedule appointments or other activities during those testing dates.
2021 COUGAR SWAG
Parents have requested and now is the chance to purchase! A PTO subcommittee has been collecting information about ordering Cougar Swag but we need to justify purchasing minimum quantities for products. Please fill out this simple survey so we can gauge interest.
