Graduation Spotlight: Elizabeth Buchtel Awardee Kareemah Jackson

We're thrilled to spotlight Kareemah Jackson, a 2024 recipient of the University of Akron's Elizabeth Buchtel Award and participant with Project GRAD, fresh off her graduation from The University of Akron (Go, Zips!) with a psychology degree.

During her fall semester, Kareemah interned at Project GRAD Akron, leading a tenth-grade leadership academy. At U of A, she was active in Phi Delta Kappa, worked as a dining marketing intern, volunteered with Serve Akron, and facilitated Project Ujima. Inspired by her own mentoring experience, Kareemah also mentors a freshman student.

Kareemah, your achievements are incredible, and we're excited to see the impact you'll make. Congratulations!

"I live in West Akron, and providing young people with opportunities to explore their passions can profoundly impact their lives and our community.

I continue to make time for this organization because I have always been student-centered, and I want to provide the young people in this program with meaningful experiences. I believe working alongside the incredible staff helps to have a positive community impact.”

Staff Spotlight: Theresa Manzell

What do you wish more community members knew about Project GRAD Akr? The amazing talents and skills our staff bring to the program and the commitment they have to our students and families.

The ability to engage and support is built on a belief that everyone can achieve success. We help students and families believe in themselves and give them the tools to succeed.

Project GRAD Akron makes lasting connections.

It's not uncommon to have graduates come back with questions and look for help long after high school graduation. Project GRAD Akron is always there ready to assist.

I believe Project GRAD’s greatest strength is the commitment of its staff to the students it supports.

The dependability of Project GRAD provides students and grads with a sense of security that makes it possible for them to flourish, even in difficult circumstances.”
