Lenten Meal & The Chosen

Wednesday, 3/6 @ 6 PM

St. John's is renting our Parish Hall building Wednesday, February 28-Friday, March 1 to a TV production company while they are filming in the area. Since TV crews will be using many of our rooms for costuming and catering needs, there will be limited parking available during the day. Any church meetings will be held in the sanctuary, including our Lenten program on The Chosen on Wednesday, February 28 at 6pm. While this is certainly an exciting opportunity, please refrain from coming to campus unless you are here for a meeting. All questions can be directed to Rev Jill.

Stations of the Cross Retreat

Lenten Retreat: Saturday, March 16 8:30-11:30am

Enter into the mystery of Jesus’s last days and imagine what you’d see and hear if you were there.

We invite you to take part in a special Lenten Retreat on Saturday, March 16. We will gather in the Parish Hall for breakfast and learn about the history of the Stations of the Cross (a series of 14 images and prayers that mark the last hours of Jesus’s life).

The rest of the morning will be spent in small groups or as individuals who will create something for our Stations of the Cross Walk on Good Friday, March 29. Pick the Station that means the most to you and show us how you feel. Use your imagination as you create a unique object or item; it can be a craft, poetry, painting, or writing prayers for St. John’s. We’ll provide supplies – paint, pictures, paper, etc. – and you will get the chance to show what the Station you choose means to you.

This is a whole church project partnered with Sunday School and Youth Group. This is a great way to connect and share what the season of Lent means to you, as well as learn about our individual faith journeys and our journey as a church. We hope to see you there!

Date: Saturday, March 16

Time: 8:30 am – 11:30 am

If you don’t finish your piece during the retreat you can take it home to finish. If you can’t make it to the retreat – don’t let that stop you! Create something at home and bring it to the office by Thursday, March 28th. Let your imagination soar!

RSVPs are helpful for planning purposes but not required.

Looking for Volunteers for Chester Eastside's 'Open Table'

Orientation: Thursday, March 7th or Friday, March 8th at 9:30 at CEI (carpool from St John's at 9:00) [Please note corrected dates]

In partnership with Chester Eastside, Rev Jill and interested volunteers will go to Chester once a month to serve a hot meal to those who gather at CEI's Open Table. Time commitment: 4 hours.

Open Table's mission is to provide a full, healthy meal to anyone seeking to take part, without cost, questions, or requirements. Volunteers serve an already-prepared hot dish, prepare salad, and serve dessert; others act as host and companion to our guests. Everyone agrees to create and maintain an environment that is inclusive, diverse, respectful of every person, and creates peace. At CEI we aspire to feed not only bodies, but hearts and spirits.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Rev Jill.
