APS Board Profile - Claire Vogel Camargo

Claire Vogel Camargo  discovered her poetry muse, or vice versa, later in life. Attending a few WLT classes and joining APS spurred her interest. From the outset in 2010, she submitted to and was published in the AIPF anthology. She has been interested in Japanese short form poetry the last few years. Her poems appear in a number of journals and anthologies. Author of Iris Opening , an ekphrastic collection, she currently serves as APS board Secretary, holds BSN and MSN nursing degrees, and lives with her husband and dog.

Poetry Society of Texas Annual Contest is now open for submissions. Details at https://poetrysocietyoftexas.org/contests/annual-contests/ . Deadline is August 15, 2019.

Poets & Writers maintains searchable databases for Writing Contests, Grants & Awards , and for Literary Journals . A Submissions Calendar also is available to help get your work published. The print journal is available at the Central Library. Ads list many contests and calls for submission. There are frequently articles listing current contests and calls.

Kallisto Gaia Press presents our Summer Writing Contests in poetry and short fiction. The prize for first place in each contest is now $1000.00 and we are now giving a second prize of $100.00.

The Julia Darling Memorial Poetry Prize will be judged by Natalia Trevino. Send us your best three poems up to 65 lines each. Winner receives $1000, a two year subscription to Duotrope , and publication in  The Ocotillo Review Volume 4.1. Second Place receives $100.00, and publication. All entrants receive a copy and are considered for publication. Everyone we publish is offered monetary compensation. All work must be previously unpublished. There is a $20 entry fee. Jeffrey Taylor had a poem, "Kent, TX", accepted for the 2020 Texas Poetry Calendar and "The Water Connects" accepted for the Waco WordFest anthology .

Benjamin Nash had a poem accepted by Voices de la Luna .

Diana Conces ’ poem “McCoughan Park at dusk” was accepted for publication in the Waco WordFest ’s water-themed anthology.

LaVern Spencer McCarthy' s poem about water has been accepted for publication in Waco WordFest a nthology.

Jennifer Bloom and In Our Prime return for another round of collaborative storytelling, August 11, 2019. 5–8pm at The Institution Theater , 3800 Woodbury Dr., Austin ( more ).
On Sat, August 24, 7–9pm , join her and jazz pianist Paul Matthews for a casual evening of poetry, jazz, and good company at Adam's Music House , 6007 Belfast Drive, Austin ( more ).

Christa Pandey was the featured speaker at Poetry@Parsons in July and also had her poem "Tsunami" accepted for the Waco Wordfest anthology.

Nancy Fierstien has 3 poems in the Animal Tales XII 2019 anthology put out by the Tablerock poets of Salado. It was released July 27 at the "Salado Legends" performance. In October, 4 more poems will appear -- one in Waco, two in Boerne and yet one more in Ernie Lee's True-badour literary newsletter. She mixed fun with pleasure by pausing in Pflugerville on her way to Salado, to be a featured reader at Jim Parker's venue, the West Pecan Street Coffee and Bar.
