It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the death last week of Gunnar Johnson at the tender age of 91.
Gunnar was a two-time Past President of the Madison Chamber, and he and his late wife Eileen were instrumental in so many "Things Madison". In addition to their successful business - The Gunnar Johnson Select School of Dance - they were also co-chairs of theChamber's Image Committee, which initiated many projects throughout town. These included (but are not limited to):
The Town Clock
The Information Kiosk
Hanging Flower Baskets
Memorial Benches
Custom Trash Receptacles/Planters
and most notably:
The Eileen Johnson Memorial Fountain in Tuxis Pond

The fountain installation was Gunnar's "pet project", and the Chamber has established a fund to help maintain this gem in our town center to help keep the Johnsons' legacy alive. If you would like to make a donation in any amount in Gunnar's memory, please find more information here.

More about Gunnar and his many contributions to Madison can be found here.

A memorial service will be held later in the Spring and we will send out that information when we have it.

Gunnar will be missed by the grateful townspeople of Madison, but we are comforted in knowing that Eileen was surely waiting to share her next dance with him in heaven. May he rest in peace.
