January 27, 2016

The 2016 legislative session has begun, and HEAV is closely following 26 bills online and in committee.  HB 1342--a bill that threatens a parent's right to make decisions concerning immunizations--has been introduced and is scheduled for its first hearing in the subcommittee tomorrow after the full committee adjourns or at 9:30 a.m.

This proposed bill challenges a parent's right to delay or refuse immunizations by eliminating language that has historically given parents and guardians the
right to claim religious or medical exemptions.

What You Can Do
  1. E-mail the subcommittee delegates tonight and tomorrow, asking them to vote "no" on HB 1342. Contact information is below.
  2. Call the subcommittee delegates tomorrow morning and ask them to oppose this bill. Contact information is below.
  3. Attend the subcommittee meeting in House Room D at 9:30 a.m.

You do not necessarily need to speak at the subcommittee meeting, but your presence at the meeting will show strong support for parental rights.

With warm regards,

Yvonne Bunn
