Recognizing that emerging leaders possess the energy, insights, and communication skills needed to advance the dialogue on our most pressing challenges, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (National Academies) established the New Voices program in 2018 to bring fresh perspectives from mid-career professionals to important dialogues around how science, engineering, and medicine are shaping the global future. Each interdisciplinary cohort serves a two-year term before transitioning to active alumni status and is supported by a staff office at the National Academies and an Advisory Committee made up of senior leaders dedicated to the New Voices mission. Current cohort members meet monthly via Zoom and also convene in person twice a year for a two-day meeting. They also work on producing webinars and other public events as part of their service.
