The SCDRP August Partnership Meeting featured Alec Eaton, EMA Coordinator for the City of Brunswick Fire/EMA. Alec shared actionable strategies and collaborative ideas for enhancing emergency management capacity, including:
- Partnering with faith-based communities
- Collaborating with other sectors, especially universities
- Utilizing closed-system AI platforms to assist with administrative tasks, leaving more time for face-to-face interactions
- Gamification of tabletop exercises
- The importance of being an active presence in the community: build relationships, show up to events, and build trust with community members

2026 - 2031 SECOORA IOOS Funding Opportunity
The Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association (SECOORA) will prepare and submit a single coordinated regional proposal in response to the anticipated FY 2026 Implementation of the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS®) funding opportunity.
SECOORA is soliciting Letters of Intent (LOIs) to be reviewed and considered for inclusion in SECOORA’s full proposal submission to NOAA. Additionally, SECOORA is soliciting Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) for water level station installers and/or operators.
Respondents are encouraged to work together across the region (i.e., through establishment of multi-sector and multi-component teams where appropriate) and submit ideas for regional activities for inclusion in this proposal.

Emergency Community Water Assistance Grants, USDA (Rolling Applications)
This program helps eligible communities prepare for, or recover from, an emergency that threatens the availability of safe, reliable drinking water.
What is an eligible area?
• Rural areas and towns with populations of 10,000 or less, including Tribal lands and colonias in eligible areas.
• The area must have a median household income less than the state’s median household income for non-metropolitan areas.
How can funds be used?
Water source grants can be used to construct a water source, intake or treatment facility. The maximum amount for water source grants is $1 million.
Water distribution systems grants can be used to:
• Construct waterline extensions
• Repair breaks or leaks in existing water distribution lines
• Perform water line maintenance necessary to replenish the water supply
• Purchase or maintain water storage tanks
The maximum amount for the distribution systems grant is $150,000.

Bow Seat’s True Blue Fellowship
The True Blue Fellowship offers peer-mentorship, capacity building, and funding of up to $2,500 USD to youth who are developing projects that address ocean, waterways, and/or climate issues through a creative arts lens. The Fellowship is free to enter and open to youth ages 13 - 24 worldwide, whether as individuals, classes, groups, clubs, or organizations.

Comprehensive Resource for Living Shorelines in Coastal Georgia
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Coastal Resources Division (CRD) has released a new guidance document to support the design and implementation of living shorelines along the Georgia coast. The document provides practical, science-based criteria and standards for determining site suitability, developing designs, and applying best management practices (BMPs) in shoreline stabilization projects. The guide is intended for a wide audience, including homeowners, regulators, engineers, contractors, landscape architects, and anyone interested in nature-based solutions for coastal erosion.

SASMI Project Identification Survey This questionnaire is a tool to identify and gather information about potential Salt Marsh conservation, protection, and restoration projects along the Georgia Coast.
The Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (SEAFWA) Conservation Access, Relevancy, and Engagement (C.A.R.E.) Committee invites college students and recent graduates pursuing careers in natural resources or conservation-related fields (including but not limited to marine biology, biology, wildlife conservation, game management, community engagement, conservation law enforcement, etc.) to apply for the C.A.R.E. Scholarship.
Scholarship recipients will receive full funding to attend the 2025 SEAFWA Annual Conference, held October 26–29, 2025, in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Winners will participate in a special C.A.R.E. Fellow Workshop featuring:
- Networking and elevator pitch development
- Resume writing tips
- A "Careers in Conservation" panel
- An agency roundtable with representatives from SEAFWA’s 15 member states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and federal agencies

Call for Papers - Co-production and Coastal Resilience Collection in Estuaries and Coasts - NOAA RESTORE Science Program
The NOAA RESTORE Science Program has partnered with researchers from Florida State University and the RESTORE Act Center of Excellence for Louisiana to propose a special collection on co-production and coastal resilience in the journal Estuaries and Coasts. The submission window for the collection is now open through August 31, 2025.
Call for Applications: New Voices in Sciences, Engineering and Medicine
Recognizing that emerging leaders possess the energy, insights, and communication skills needed to advance the dialogue on our most pressing challenges, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (National Academies) established the New Voices program in 2018 to bring fresh perspectives from mid-career professionals to important dialogues around how science, engineering, and medicine are shaping the global future. Each interdisciplinary cohort serves a two-year term before transitioning to active alumni status and is supported by a staff office at the National Academies and an Advisory Committee made up of senior leaders dedicated to the New Voices mission. Current cohort members meet monthly via Zoom and also convene in person twice a year for a two-day meeting. They also work on producing webinars and other public events as part of their service.
