Prior to accepting the CIO position at SC State, Ham was director of information technology for the Orangeburg County Consolidated School District 5, where he supervised a staff of 25 and provided strategic direction for the district’s information technology infrastructure and functionality.
SC State has heavily invested in shoring up its information technology infrastructure. With the University Computing and Information Technology Services (UCTIS) team, Ham will lead the resulting initiatives to support classroom and laboratory learning, remote learning and research and development.
“Our goal of improving the technology infrastructure at South Carolina State University is to enhance the overall university experience by increasing access to high-bandwidth, highly available Wi-Fi across campus,” Ham said. “By doing so, we aim to provide students, faculty, and staff with a protected and safe environment for their online activities.
“This includes ensuring that our Wi-Fi network is secure and reliable, capable of accommodating multiple devices simultaneously,” he said. “Through these improvements, we strive to create a more connected and technologically advanced campus, empowering individuals to engage in seamless virtual learning, research, and collaboration.”
From 1996-2002, Ham was a mathematics and technology teacher at Calhoun County High School, where he was Teacher of the Year in 1999.
From 2001-2012 he was dean and program coordinator at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.
