TVMSC Students Receive National Recognition:
Two TVMSC students,
Nicolas Medapalli
and
Jimin Ryu
(both 9th grade East Jr. High and 10th/11th TVMSC) conducted research this year that focused on the development of an autonomous drone that is outfitted with a water sampling mechanism for use in gathering water samples remotely. Nicolas and Jimin constructed their mechanism and field tested it locally before submitting their research work to the
Stockholm Junior Water Competition
. They were selected as the 2019 Idaho Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) state winners. As a result, Jimin and Nicolas will now participate in the 2019 National Stockholm Junior Water Competition that will be held at at The Ohio State University (OSU) in Columbus, Ohio, June 13-16, 2019. Their presentation in the competition will involve sharing details of their research in a Poster Session that is backed by a formal research paper. Their participation at the competition on the Ohio State University campus has all expenses paid.
"This impressive body of research was time consuming, complex and multifaceted in the documentation required for submitting the work for consideration by the competition judges," said Principal Dr.
Holly MacLean
, TVMSC. Video footage of their work testing the prototype of the mechanism can be observed in the video below.
