Mike enjoys a Manhattan in Manhattan at the Roundglass Music Awards

I hope you were able to watch the Grammys this year. There is still time to watch the Premiere Ceremony on-line. Dallas' own, Grammy-nominated Jazzmeia Horn, knocked her performance out of the park and received a standing ovation from some of the best musicians around the world. For more Grammy details, see recap section below.

Pictured above, Mike enjoys a "Manhattan in Manhattan" at the reception following the 1st ever Round Glass Music Awards, started by our friend and Grammy Winner Ricky Kej from India. The Round Glass awards promotes world peace and a greener planet through music--which seriously connects with my soul! It was an invitation-only event held at the elegant Edison Ballroom in Times Square and featured some killer performers, like Patti Austin, Paquito D'Rivera, and Wouter Kellerman to name a few. In my opinion, the artist who stole the show and took my breath away, was Tina Guo who played the electric cello using looping technology. Here's a link to introduce you to her, if you are interested:   Wonder Woman Theme

I hope to see you soon and as always, thanks for supporting live jazz!

Grammy Recap ...

This year the 60th Grammy Awards were held in New York City at Madison Square Garden.

The Grammys are always evolving with the times and it is an interesting overview of the music industry. By staying involved and voting, we do our part to support musicians and artists that contribute their work for consideration each year.

The Premiere Ceremony, prior to the televised Grammy show, is really a great way to see the majority of the categories and artists NOT represented on the tv broadcast. This year was a special treat. The house band at the Premiere Ceremony included two UNT Alums (Tom "Bones" Malone on trombone, sax, and piccolo trumpet, and Frank Greene on lead trumpet). The band, referred to as "The World's Most Dangerous Band" was lead by Paul Schaefer (of David Letterman fame) who also hosted the ceremony. One special moment occurred when Christian McBride was announced as the winner of the Best Large Jazz Ensemble Grammy and he insisted that Frank Greene move down from his perch in the house band and join them at the podium to receive the Grammy since he was on the recording. A great band leader always recognizes his band!
