Bristol Board of Education
Bristol School District #1 is governed by a group of five elected officials, referred to as the Board of Education. Each member is elected to serve three consecutive years. The Board is responsible for ensuring a high-quality education for students of the district. They accomplish this by holding the District Administrator accountable for student success, developing effective policies that support the district’s mission and representing the voice of the community served by Bristol School District.

Board workshops and regular board meetings are open to the public and citizens are encouraged to attend. Meeting agendas, minutes and supporting materials are available on the on the school website under the district tab > Board of Education > meetings and minutes.

The Board welcomes input from the school community. You may contact any individual Board member by the email listed below.

As another school year closes out it is a chance to reflect, celebrate, and look forward to the adventures of the summer and next school year. It is also an opportunity to recognize and celebrate individuals. At the end of June our longtime Business Manager, Judy Dabbs, is retiring. Judy has been a strong leader in the district for many years and her contributions helped to keep Bristol School District in a strong financial position. We wish Judy the best on her next chapter and if you see her wish her well.
Recently, I was able to join a group of 3 rd  grade students and be part of their persuasive presentations. These students helped to highlight goals that can be used moving forward for the school community. One of their goals was to increase learning opportunities for students, this is the path we will continue to take and find ways to support our students so they are ready for their next adventure in high school and beyond. The students also talked about physical spaces within the building, I was happy to say that this a project and exploration that will continue to take place for a possible building referendum. While we continue to move forward and look ahead, please take time to enjoy the moment and celebrate the many positive blessings and experiences that we are provided each day.

As the school year draws to a close it gives me a chance to reflect on all that I have had the opportunity experience here at Bristol School. As the interim principal, I was fortunate enough to join the Bristol team in January of this year and was allowed to quickly jump into the action to start working with kids and teachers. From my first day meeting with the Student Services Team and ending that day by meeting with the School Improvement Team, the focus on school improvement and doing what’s best for kids has been an ongoing theme. I have also had the opportunity to sit in on grade level team meetings as we discussed student progress and which students needed supports. The teachers worked together to develop lessons that would help students meet the state standards and held discussions about which students may be going through some rough times and how we could support them through those things as well.

I have been fortunate to see our student-athletes perform in Basketball, Volleyball, and Track. I have witnessed not only great effort on their part but also inspiring sportsmanship and positive attitudes. At an age when students can be very focused on themselves, our athletic teams promote sharing, communication, and teamwork. Even in a sport like track where it is easy to believe it is an individual sport, I have seen our athletes support each other during events, remind each other of equipment they will need, keep each other from missing field events, cheer their loudest as they cross the finish line and offer a shoulder for support or get their teammate some tape or an ice pack.

My time with Bristol School has also allowed me to work with educators, board members, community servants and parents that are striving to make our school a better place. I have worked with a very dedicated school safety committee that has worked to ensure we are doing our best to provide a safe environment for our students. They have spent numerous hours reviewing policies and procedures to ensure we are doing the best for our kids. My work with the Parent Advisory Committee has also shown how there is a tireless effort to review our policies and handbooks to secure a safe and focused learning environment for students. Their work and the work of the administrative team made Bristol School the first district in the state to perform a large-scale ALICE drill involving students, teachers, the sheriff’s department and the Bristol Fire & Rescue services in the state of Wisconsin. This hyper-vigilance to review our practices and procedures will only help to make sure our educators are doing the best for our students. The commitment from community stakeholders will continue to make sure that Bristol School is a top-notch learning environment for kids.

While I was called in to help Bristol School finish their school year with a building principal to help guide them, I feel as though it was I that learned and gained so much from my experience here. While I will miss working with the students and teachers here at Bristol School I certainly wish them all the best in the future.

As the school year begins to wrap up, I reflect on all the many accomplishments our students have achieved. Some were big and others small, but it is important to celebrate them all. We have many talented students here at Bristol. These talents and success can be found in all areas from academics and athletics to the kindness they show for one another. Our students and their parents should be proud of those accomplishments this year, I know I am. Have a great rest of the school year and summer. We look forward to what the 2019-2020 school year will bring.

Bristol School Coffee Cart

As a special education department, we are continually looking for ways to improve instruction and support for our students. This year, Mrs. Ellsworth (one of our special education teachers) was able to start a student-run coffee cart. The students are able to work on their vocational skills, life skills, and social communication skills. Students participate in community-based learning experiences so that they can practice budgeting, purchasing, and storing the items. The students then work with Mrs. Ellsworth to deliver coffee and other hot beverages to teachers and staff throughout the building. It’s been great to see the hard-working students every Monday and Friday morning!

Creative Summer Fun
Summer conjures up different images for each of us so the technology department sincerely hopes the entire Bristol School community will have a safe, healthy, and fun summer for all. It has been a year full of makerspaces, coding, Makey Makey, BrainPop and Flip Grid video creation, WeVideo editing, STEM games, BookCreator and Booksnaps, just to name a few projects. Taking a break from technology to enjoy face-to-face time with family and friends allows children to grow socially and personally as well as discover and explore new interests. Looking for ideas? A list of fun, creative tech and no-tech activities will be posted here in mid-June.

Summer is fast approaching! We are having conversations with your children in the classrooms as to how to have a fun and safe summer. We have included resources to help find cheap and fun things to do this summer as a family, as well as a variety of recommendations from the CDC on how to be safe this summer. Click the images below for the list of tips and tricks!

We wish you a healthy and happy summer!

Thank you to all you parents for helping make Teacher Appreciation Week a huge success! We sure do appreciate our teachers and staff and want to make sure they know it. We celebrate this year and look forward to the next.

We can't believe that it is the end of another school year! And with it comes some turnover in our PTA positions. At our April PTA meeting, we elected our new PTA Officers into their positions. Jocelyn Oberembt is PTA President, Heather Talbert is Vice President, Leigh Ann Boncher remains as Secretary, and we are happy to retain Steve Grimm as Treasurer for a 4th year.

With that, we also need some new faces in our co-chair positions to keep our popular activities going throughout the year. Please take a look at the abbreviated list below. If you are interested in learning more to help co-lead a committee with an experienced co-chair, please let us know!

  • Classroom Coordinator Co-Chair - Helps communicate with the parents of each classroom on PTA events.
  • Fundraising Co-Chair - Schedules and advertises restaurant & skating nights and passive fundraising.
  • Fall Fest Co-Chair - Coordinates the leads in each sub section for this our most popular event!
  • Box Tops - Under fundraising, coordinates the collection and submission of Box Tops, upgrading to online.
  • Sweetheart Dance Co-chair - Plans and advertises this warm-hearted dance for the end of January.
  • Education Co-Chair - Coordinates hosting community representatives for the Art themed evening in February.
  • Teacher Appreciation Co-Chair - Themes and organizes the second week of May to appreciate our school.
  • 8th Grade Graduation Co-chair - Plan with the 8th grade staff the decoration and reception for graduation.
Thanks again for helping make our PTA community events a success this year!
