Former State Senator Richard T. Moore, a long-time member of the Blackstone Heritage Corridor Board, visited Shenandoah River State Park last month. Moore—who authored the 1978 legislation creating the Blackstone River and Canal Heritage State Park—highlighted the rivers’ key differences: Shenandoah’s role in the Civil War versus the Blackstone’s place in launching America’s Industrial Revolution. He also noted that both have inspired songs, from the famed “Shenandoah” to our own “In the Valley Where the Blackstone River Flows.”
