We partnered with the Worcester Writers' Collective to install Blackstone Story Walks along the Blackstone River Greenway between Millbury and Worcester. A reading was held on April 27 to hear the prose and poetry created that celebrate the natural and historic resources of the Blackstone River Valley. View the signs here.

Corridor News - May 6, 2025

An independent nonprofit preserving, promoting, and celebrating the Corridor's historic, natural, and recreational resources for current and future generations.


We kicked off National Bike Month on May 1st with officials from Koopman Lumber at the Blackstone River Greenway. Koopman Lumber has pledged a $45,000 donation toward our Legacy Campaign for advocacy to complete the Blackstone River Bikeway/Greenway between Worcester and Providence. As our Board Chair, Dennis Rice, says, "Let's Get It Done by '31!" Learn more here.

Volunteers Got a Raise!


Volunteer service is a valuable in-kind donation, and we appreciate all of the time given by our amazing Volunteers. During National Volunteer Week in April, Independent Sector announced a 3.9% increase in the value of a volunteer's time to $34.79! 

Corporate Day of Service Thank You's!

Last month, employees at Millbury National Bank did a Day of Service by volunteering at the Asa Waters Mansion in Millbury.

Finlays Solutions volunteered in April at Sycamore Landing with the Blackstone River Watershed Council/Friends of the Blackstone.

Employees from Santander volunteered at DCR's Blackstone River Valley Heritage Center in April to help with landscaping.

Spring Hiking Series


We're halfway through our Spring Hike Series and have clocked many miles with our Volunteer Trail Ambassadors! Volunteer Phil Johanson offers hikes in the Massachusetts portion of the National Heritage Corridor, and Ernie Germani covers the Rhode Island portion. Join us on the trail!.


Massachusetts hikes are at 10 a.m., and Rhode Island hikes are at 9 a.m.

Third Annual Fish Migration Parade


Sunday, May 18, at 10:30 a.m.

Central Falls Landing, 15 Madeira Ave., Central Falls


Come celebrate the Blackstone River and the hopeful restoration of migratory species. Enjoy family-friendly crafts and hear from local speakers on the importance of this work. Then, we’ll paddle or take a boat ride together about half a mile to explore the eventual spawning grounds for migratory fish. Learn more and RSVP here.


Blackstone Valley Paddle Club Launches 25th Season on May 20


The Blackstone Valley Paddle Club will launch its 25th season with a paddle at the West River in Uxbridge.

Take a free tour with a park ranger at Old Slater Mill this spring or summer. No reservations are required. All tours are free and open to the public.

Guided Tours: Fridays and Saturdays (10:30 A.M., 12:30 P.M., 2:30 P.M.).

Open Thursdays - Sundays (10:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.)

Guided Tours: Thursdays - Sundays (10:30 A.M., 12:30 P.M., 2:30 P.M.)


Tours are limited to 25 persons – first come, first served.

Ranger Walkabouts


Join a Park Ranger and explore the Blackstone River Valley.


During the months of June, July, and August, park staff offer specialty tours at varying locations across the Blackstone River Watershed. These programs begin at 6:30 PM and are 60-minutes long.
