"Thrifting" on the Corridor

Connecting the towns, cultural districts, and communities of

Sunset, Grand Coteau, Frozard, Arnaudville, Cecilia, Henderson

Plan a trip to Acadiana and visit Corridor des Arts and stay for a bit. Scroll down to see a listing of rooms and cottages available at all price points, eat some amazing food and enjoy culturally relevant programming and events.

We hope you enjoy the complimentary Corridor des Arts events newsletter sponsored by the NUNU Arts and Culture Collective. Our team of volunteers strives to provide you with the most up-to-date, accurate information on unique offerings. Please contact each location to ensure there are no last-minute changes and should you know of an interesting event, location or activity, please let us know by emailing us at information@nunucollective.org.

"Thrifting" on the Corridor

There is a culture of people who live to thrift.

Thrifting is a sustainable trend for buying affordable clothing, furniture, and household goods. Create a one of a kind wardrobe. Interrupt fast fashion. Score high-quality furniture and goods. Find project pieces at affordable prices. Support worthwhile organizations that in turn give back to the community including the Thensted Center in Grand Coteau and St. Therese's in Arnaudville. Buying from thrift and 2nd hand stores supports your local community.

Most are located in the Town of Sunset.

Mark your calendar for the Exit 11 Yard Sale on Saturday, November 5th, 2022 and Saturday, March 18th, 2023.

Invite family and friends. Plan a trip to thrift along the Corridor and stay for a bit. Book a unique room or cottage, eat some amazing food, see and procure art, speak French/Creole and enjoy culturally relevant events while you, "Bayou Some Stuff."

A list of accommodations is located at the end of the newsletter.

Voluntourism on the Corridor

Every year, folks from wealthy nations like the US travel to poor countries hoping to do good work. University students spend a school break or part of a summer giving back. Church groups go for one or two-week missions. Everyone that goes seeks personal growth, connection to those less fortunate, and the satisfaction of making a difference. All in all, it is a beautiful effort but often times it places an unnecessary burden on local infrastructure within those already struggling communities. An alternative would be to look within one’s own community or a community stateside that already has the infrastructure in place to receive volunteer labor. Below please find a list of places that welcome volunteer labor.

Atelier de la Nature in Cecilia–

”Would you like to join our happy team of droid makers, UFO builders, and other decoration painters? Meet us every Sunday Atelier de la Nature and help us get ready for the Halloween Art & Nature Festival 2022!”
