For those of you that are not familiar with this product feature, here’s a brief summary. Supplemental Workload was designed to automatically create additional worktasks on patient bills to provide more accurate cost accounting. These worktasks do not exist in a client’s data downloads naturally.
One example of how supplemental workloads are used to improve the overall accuracy of cost accounting is by applying accurate and fair costing of the Admitting Department to patient records. In a typical cost accounting set up, the Admitting Department is usually an overhead cost and spread to all patients. This causes an issue as Inpatients typically get more overhead costs than outpatients, when the reality is that admitting a patient takes about the same amount of time. To fix this issue, many CostFlex clients will create an "Admitting" worktask on all patients and cost the Admitting department directly to patients and not have it as an overhead cost.
