Shooting Sports Kick Off meeting & practice

Shooting Sports is a combination of rifle and archery. We will have our meeting and first practice on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Windom Arena.



Project Bowl

There are eight different project bowl categories - dairy, dairy goat, dog, general livestock, horse, poultry, rabbit and wildlife. We currently have a horse team.

Registration is open for the 2020 Building Leadership & Understanding (BLU) regional leadership workshops. BLU is open to youth in grades 6-12. Five BLUs will be held at locations across the state - registration deadlines vary by location. Meet youth from across the region and build leadership skills at this event!

Federation & Careers presentation
Donna Gravley will be present to speak about her educational and career paths as she became an auctioneer and a county commissioner. The Federation meeting is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Extension office.

Project Day Spotlight volunteers needed
Know of a great general fair project? We're looking for volunteers to lead a 55 minute hands-on presentation to teach youth a project that they can exhibit at county fair.

Market Beef ID & Weigh in
Market beef ID and weigh in will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 9-11 a.m. at Troy and Hilary Paplow's.

Horse and livestock PDC meetings will be held on Monday, Feb. 24 at the Extension office.

2020 Southwest Animal Science Challenge
Dairy, general livestock, and horse enthusiasts - mark your calendar! The tenth annual Southwest Animal Science Challenge will be held on Saturday, February 15, at the Wabasso Public School.

Cottonwood County 4-H/Livestock Improvement Association Scholarship
Cottonwood County 4-H and the Livestock Improvement Association is sponsoring up to three $500 scholarships to graduating seniors in Cottonwood County 4-H.

Watonwan Speedway Builders invites all Cottonwood county 4-H members to open skate
Free skaking for all Watonwan and Cottonwood 4-H'ers

An exciting day is being planned for all 4-H adult volunteers to network with fellow volunteers and share their interests while learning to lead project learning opportunities to help youth identify and pursue areas of interest. It will be held Saturday, February 1 from 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. at SMSU in Marshall.

The family of Andrea Ruesch established a 4-H scholarship in memory of her dedication and contributions to the Minnesota 4-H program. Based on the family's belief in positive youth development, the focus of this scholarship is on demonstrated learning through hands-on experience and using what you have learned to help others (youth leadership). This is a one-time $1,000 scholarship and at least four scholarships will be awarded annually. Due date: Application must be postmarked by March 2, 2020

Meeker County 4-H volunteer Pam Peterson has been named the 2020 Minnesota 4-H Salute to Excellence Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer.
 
Cara Greger of Big Stone County has received the 2020 Minnesota 4-H Salute to Excellence Volunteer of the Year Award.
 
Attend the first of three online webinars for adult and youth leaders on Monday, Jan. 27. The topic of the webinar is "Utilizing Ice Breakers & Reflection to Develop Skills in Youth".

4-H members who are 10th grade and older: Apply to be a Minnesota 4-H Agriculture Ambassador. Registration is now open-apply by Feb. 3. This is a new opportunity for Minnesota 4-H!
 
Before 4-H project bowl teams gather, make sure all youth are enrolled and at least two Minnesota 4-H volunteers are designated to lead the team.
 
Winter activities and outings require planning ahead to avoid risk. Use the "keeping youth safe" guidelines and policies before offering these activities to 4-H members.
 
Review and communicate winter weather cancellation plans for 4-H programs, activities and outings to help ensure the safety of 4-H members and families during the winter months.
 
We are offering county-based 4-H summer intern positions throughout the state of Minnesota. Most positions will be for 10-11 weeks, with flexible starting dates. Candidates must have a high school diploma, and at least two years of undergraduate study is preferred. The application deadline is open until positions are filled with a preference for candidates who apply by Jan. 10.
 
Sign up for the 2020 Science of Agriculture Challenge! Register your team by Monday, March 2, 2020. This event is open to youth in grades 6-12. Great for developing communication, teamwork and problem solving skills.
 
Sign up for the 2020 Engineering Design Challenge! Designed for youth in grades 3-12, the challenge is great for creativity, teamwork, problem solving and idea sharing.
