Lakin Center To Serve As In-Person Voting Center
Los Angeles Southwest College's (LASC) Lakin Center is serving as an in-person voting center. Voters will be able to cast their ballots in-person or drop-off their mail-in ballots from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Monday, November 2, and from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3.

LASC has a drop-off ballot box near the Denker Avenue entrance to campus off of Imperial Highway. Stop by and drop off your ballot in a safe, secure and convenient way.
Board Of Governors Hold First Virtual Tour With LASC
Members of the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges held its first virtual college tour on Zoom when they visited LASC on October 26. Administration, faculty, classified professionals, and students discussed COVID-19 fallout, social justice, equity, needs of students and much more.
Financial Aid Office Introduces New Information Library
LASC's Financial Aid Office encourages students to utilize GetAnswers, an online library of short 60-90 second videos that are accessible on-demand. GetAnswers' videos detail complex financial aid information to current and prospective students in an easy to understand style.

LASC Classes Will Be Online Through The 2021 Spring Semester
LACCD and its nine colleges, including LASC, will deliver all classes for the 2021 Winter Session and 2021 Spring Semester primarily in remote/online learning environments due to COVID-19.

LASC Student The Focus Of Art Gallery Exhibition
LASC's Art Gallery presented “I’m Only Dreaming,” a solo exhibition by artist Chris Garcia, to celebrate Latinx Heritage Month. Chris, who is in his final year studying at LASC, is an interdisciplinary artist working in a variety of media and symbolism, dream imagery and portraits, including self-portrait and of Native American and Meso-American people.
LASC's BSS Department To Host Media Literacy Project Throughout Fall
LASC's Behavioral and Social Sciences Department will host its ongoing Media Literacy Project throughout the Fall Semester to educate LASC students in methods to better access, analyze, evaluate, and create media. The next talk will discuss Election Night media coverage at 5 p.m. November 3 with LASC Sociology Professor Dr. Kristine Wright, Political Science Professor Dr. Lance Robert and more. 
Open Mic Competition To Showcase LASC's Creativity
LASC's English and Foreign Languages Department will host its semi-annual "Say The Word" open mic competition for rap, poetry and art from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, November 5. The event is open to all students, employees and guests. This is a free, fun event.

State Update: California Community Colleges Receives $100M To Help Students
The Jay Pritzker Foundation has made an unprecedented donation — the largest ever to a community college system in the country — a 20-year, $100 million pledge to provide scholarships to California students facing unexpected financial hardships.

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, upcoming events at LASC's campus have had to be cancelled or rescheduled. Here are some important dates coming up:

  • November 2: 2021 Winter Session priority registration for students who have completed 15-29 units
  • November 4: 2021 Winter Session priority registration for students who have completed 1-14 units
  • November 6: 2021 Winter Session priority registration for students who have completed zero units
  • November 9: 2021 Winter Session registration starts for students who lost priority
  • November 11: Veteran's Day. No classes
  • November 16: 2021 Winter Session registration starts for K-12 special admits
  • November 26-27: Thanksgiving. No classes.
  • November 28-29: Non-Instruction Say. No classes.
