Fighting Cough and Congestion with Essential Oils

If you're like me, you have already experienced this season's coughing and congestion or you know of someone who is.
While being under the weather is never pleasant,
at least you can have the tools to handle situations like these!!
Check out the different essential oils my household uses
when the coughing and the sniffling comes around!

Sinus Cleaner

It's not the most pleasant smelling concoction, but one whiff of this and you'll definitely feel your passages opening up!

1 Cup Boiling Water
1 drop peppermint
1 drop lemon
1 drop oregano
1 drop melaleuca

Boil water and pour hot water into a cup of your choice. Then add essential oils.
Inhale the steam (do not drink) with deep breaths.
Watch out and make sure steam doesn't get into eyes. This is powerful stuff!
Repeat as necessary.

Patchouli and Black Pepper

Patchouli helps soothe spasms and inflammation, while black pepper helps your body eject unwanted mucus, while easing the digestive system. It's also a powerful antioxidant.

Rub a drop or two on the bottoms of your feet. Dilute for children or sensitive skin.

Breathe, Peppermint and Cardamom

Perhaps the most popular choices when it comes to clearing your passageways and getting rid of the gunk in your chest and throat, Breathe, Cardamom and Peppermint are great oils to diffuse or apply topically to ease congestion and coughing.
Combine or use separately.
For small children, cardamom and Breathe are popular choices!

Eucalyptus and Rosemary

Need something a little stronger? Rosemary and Eucalyptus have powerful properties to clear away your passageways, and also have cleansing properties to get to the root of your problem.

Combine or use separately. Either rub a drop or two on your chest or diffuse as needed.

Rosemary and Eucalyptus also help with mental sluggishness, earaches, muscle fatique and cleaning.

Caution against high use during pregnancy, people with epilepsy or high blood pressure.

DigestZen

While we normally associate DigestZen with digestive issues, this oil blend is also a great friend for those of us with stuffy noses. Apply to bridge of nose (make sure you don't get into eyes), diffuse or apply topically.

Dilute for sensitive skin or on children. For children, massage a drop or two on their feet.

OnGuard Throat Drop, Breathe Respiratory Drops and Breathe Vapor Stick

The OnGuard Throat Drops help soothe your throat and coughs, while Breathe Respiratory Drops and Vapor Stick help open up your passageways and relieve constriction. Great to have on hand at any time!

Get Well Soon Oils!

These oils are great for getting at the root of your problem if you're feeling under the weather.

OnGuard+ Softgels are made specifically to help you get over your hump and kick your immune system back into gear. You can also take On Guard on a daily basis to keep your immune system up and strong throughout the year.

Oregano is also a powerhouse of an essential oil when it comes to kicking the bad boys from your system. We keep this one on hand specifically for these types of emergencies. Dilute for topical use or take in a capsule. Be warned: it's a hot oil. Avoid applying topically without dilution. It stings!

Lemon is a great cleansing oil, but it's also great to help boost your immune system. I love to dilute oregano and lemon in a roller bottle and apply topically to my feet.

Melaleuca is well known for its cleansing properties. Apply topically to feet or take internally in a capsule for its immune boosting strengths.

Arbovitae makes melaleuca look like a wimp when it comes to cleaning out your system from unwanted guests. Apply a few drops topically to the bottoms of your feet during times of low immune system.

Always remember: a little goes a long way, and consistent use is essential (no pun intended) for effectiveness! Use only a few drops at a time consistently. Even after you feel better, continue these "Get Well Oils" for a few days to make sure your system has what it needs!
