Brother Knights,

August 2025 is now over but it was one for the books. Here are some of the highlights. On Sunday, August 3rd, we held our Sunday Breakfast and it benefited the Preschool Scholarship Program. It was another successful endeavor and thank you to all the Brother Knights who helped. Great job Brother Knights.

At our membership meeting on Monday, August 11th, we voted to update our Council By-Laws. The By-Laws are written laws about meeting procedures and voting quorums, laws on being a Council Officer, and how much discretionary spending a Grand Knight before a vote needs to be held. The By-Laws motion was tabled and will be officially voted on at our membership meeting on September 8th. Also, at our meeting we voted on donating $5,000 to St. John Neumann towards the canopy project beside the Reynolds Hall kitchen. The canopy project motion was tabled and will be officially voted on and tabled at our next membership meeting as well.

On a sad note, we lost long-time Brother Knight Leo Schiltgen on Thursday, August 7th, 2025. At one time BK Leo was a regular volunteer for KofC events like Sunday Breakfasts and Lenten Fish Fry Dinners. During our meetings and socials other Brother Knights spoke kindly of him. One Brother Knight said that BK Leo helped his son earn Ad Altare Dei which is a Catholic Boy Scout Award. BK Leo Schiltgen will be greatly missed. Please pray for the repose of the soul of BK Leo Schiltgen.

Looking ahead, the Knights of Columbus will be hosting a Sunday Breakfast on Sunday, September 7th and it will benefit the Special Needs Ministry. I mentioned earlier that we voted on the canopy project and as a Grand Knight for the past couple of years during our Lenten Fish Fry Dinners, I’ve always heard we should put a cover and canopy beside the Reynolds Hall kitchen. Because oftentimes it rains during the Fish Fry’s and the tents are simply not enough as they quickly get overwhelmed with water and the frying team gets wet. They wouldn’t get wet if we had a real canopy. Well, our prayers have been answered and we now have a canopy over there. We are also adding electricity, lighting, and fans to enhance the canopy area. This new canopy is a great addition for the KofC Fish Fry Team and a tremendous addition to the St. John Neumann Parish Community. May God Bless you All!

The first element to be purified [by Jesus] was water, transformed through Christ's baptism in the Jordan by John the Baptist. Through this, water was redeemed and made new for all the world to be baptized. That scouring of water and that baptism on the banks of the Jordan opened fresh to every man and woman the right relationship to God, which had been squandered and separated by our first parents. While the pagans had deep and complicated rituals that involved animal sacrifice and the offerings of food, wine, and goods, our ritual or recipe for return couldn't be simpler: water and prayer. Paired with the sacred words of sacramental rite, one drop of water gives a soul the capacity to enter into the ocean of God's grace and to discover the depths of eternal life in ways completely unknown in the ancient world". –Carrie Gress
