Grand Knight’s Report
Worthy Brother Knights,

Recently I had some pain in my neck when cutting the lawn. Being 64 years old I
was often told to see a Doctor if I had any new pains so off I went. Due to age and
family history it was recommended I undergo a cardiac catheterization to see if
there was any blockage in my heart arteries. Blockage can lead to sudden death.

Tempus Fugit, Memento Mori ( Time Flies, Remember Death)

As I laid on the table in the Cath lab this phrase came to mind. Had I lived a life
that proved myself worthy of eternal life? My short earthly existence seemed to
be rushing by. ( time for confession)
Fortunately, the blockage they detected did not require additional surgery, but I
was given a warning. Stop sugar, alcohol, fatty foods and exercise more.
Otherwise I was going to need open heart surgery in the future or risk a heart
attack.
So I find myself in a position stated by Saint Bonaventure “ to lead a good life a
man should always imagine himself at the hour of death”. I was imagining death
and realized I am in the 4th quarter of my life.

We have lost several Brother Knights this year that led a good life. I hope with the
support of my fellow Knights we can all live a good life and achieve Heaven.

I really, really miss sugar.

Vivat Jesus,

Mike MacFarlane

Good of the Order
In last month's business meeting, the following items were included in the Good of the Order:

  • BK Charlie Brantley won the 50/50 drawing for $25.
  • BK Jeff Hairston’s name was picked, but he was not in attendance. Jeff has apparently moved, and there was discussion on whether or not he was still a member of the 7923. No one knew for sure. No award was made. The award would have been $50.
  Recognizing Knights
GK Mike MacFarlane Recognized the following Knights:

  • Knight of the Month:
  • June - BK Ken Fehner, for his chairing and working Burger Night.
  • July - BK Harvey James, for his excellent work advising Council on deck roof selection.
  • Family of the Month:
  • June - BK Don and Karen Detar
  • July - BK Walter Czerniawski and his son Michael. Michael will honor his late father’s wishes that the new smoker will be Walter’s gift to the Council. Michael will pay the final balance when due and would like to be present for the dedication of the smoker.
  • Special Recognition: Houston Feaster, for the multitude of work he did in the Neumann Center renovations over several months. His Brother Knights gave Houston a Randall deer-skinning knife engraved with his name. The current wait time for a Randall knife is 4 years, but the GK was able to make a contact in the company and get one of only two knives in Randall’s current inventory.
Prayers for Knights in Need

Please pray for the following Knights in need:
  • All BK’s - For all our military and first responders who keep us safe every day.
  • David Werve - For David and Milly Andrews, brain tumor.
  • Jerry Demmerly - For brother Tom with glaucoma.
  • Ralph Oshinski - For daughter Marcia with cancer.
  • Woody Lott - For Paul Scibonas' mother.
  • Tom Hamberger - For cousin Gena Schindler with cancer.
  • For Eileen Stewart's daughter, blood disorder.
  • For BK Leo Schiltgen’s safe, frequent travel attending to his brother’s affairs.
Old Business

  • Still hoping for delivery of the smoker around the beginning of September.

  • The contractor for the deck roof has been selected. The estimate is $15,100. The contract will be let by St. John Neumann Church. The Council will pay SJN, and SJN will pay the contractor. This will allow the Church’s Workman’s Comp Policy to cover the construction, and all construction liability shifts to the Parish. This is more appropriate since the Church is the owner of the Neumann Center. Construction expected to start early September.
