Dear Brother Knights,
Here is my monthly report. The first half of November was an exceptionally busy month for our Council and our Council’s Honor Guard. First, on Thursday, November 2nd St. John Neumann held the Mass of Remembrance, and on Saturday, November 4th, the Knights held their annual Knight’s Remembrance Mass. On Monday, November 6th, we paid our last respects to SK Trevor Chen. Then on Wednesday, November 8th, we paid our last respects to PGK Ed Quillian who passed away on November 2nd. A Memorial Service Mass was held for both SK Trevor Chen and PGK Ed Quillian. They will both be missed and we pray for the repose of their souls.
On Friday, November, 10th, a Veteran’s Day Memorial Service was held at St. Stephens. Finally, on Saturday, November 11th, St. John Neumann hosted the Fourth Degree Exemplification. The Fourth Degree Ceremony was a special experience for me. I was exemplified as a Fourth Degree Knight in November 2020 and it was a virtual exemplification because of Covid19 pandemic concerns. It wasn't that memorable because we watched the ceremony on a big-screen TV. This past one that I observed and participated in was a much more memorable experience and it was a grand ceremony as well. I would strongly encourage any 3rd Degree Knights to advance to the Fourth Degree.
The special Masses, Memorial Services, and Fourth Degree Exemplification all had Honor Guard participation and I would like to commend our Council’s Honor Guard for a job well done. I would also like to thank the other Brother Knights who attended and participated in these special services and ceremonies as well.

On Sunday, November 5th we had our Sunday Breakfast and it benefitted the Bereavement Ministry. It was another well-attended breakfast and the ministry greatly benefitted. Our membership meeting was on Monday, November 13th, and we held the Flag Retirement Ceremony with St. John Neumann-sponsored Boy Scout Troop 522 before the meeting. It was a nice ceremony where we retired old and worn-down US Flags by burning them which is an acceptable way of retiring flags. After the ceremony, the Boy Scouts joined us for dinner. BK Frank Swider prepared BBQ sandwiches and sides before the meeting. We all enjoyed our dinner that evening.
The first half of November was exceptionally busy. The latter half of the month was a welcome break and we enjoyed Thanksgiving with our Families. Looking ahead, December will be another busy month, we have the Sunday Breakfast, on December 3rd, which will benefit the Fransalian Associates, and then on Saturday, December 9th, the Knights will host Breakfast with Santa. This is a special feature event that we do every year and this year will be no exception. On Saturday, December 16th the Knights will be participating in Wreaths Across America at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. The latter half of December the Knights will enjoy another welcomed break for the Christmas Holidays.
As you can tell from my report, we are a very active Council and we could use some more help so these activities go by more smoothly. I would encourage all Knights to start volunteering. First, try volunteering at one of our monthly breakfasts and go from there. Another great opportunity to start volunteering is the Lenten Fish Fry Dinner. The first dinner will be on February 16th, 2024 and that day is just around the corner. Our Council offers plenty of volunteering opportunities and I encourage all Brother Knights to volunteer when you have a chance. The best part of being a Knight is the teamwork that you experience and the satisfaction that you feel when you help other people. If you read this, I hope that you will consider volunteering more. St. Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850-1917)
St. Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850–1917) was the thirteenth child of a modest farming family born near Milan, Italy. Her father would often gather his children in the kitchen to hear him read from a book on the lives of the saints. St. Frances was endeared to the stories of missionaries working in the Orient and desired to become one herself, which in her day was a man's role. Turned away from being a nun twice due to poor health, she prayed before the relics of her patron, Francis Xavier, the great Jesuit missionary-saint, about founding a new religious order to evangelize the East just as he did. Pope Leo XIII approved of her order, the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, but instead of sending her to China as she had desired since childhood, he sent her to the West, specifically to America to serve the growing European immigrant population which faced poverty and disenfranchisement. St. Frances Xavier Cabrini moved to New York in 1889 and went on to found 67 institutions—schools, orphanages, and hospitals—throughout the Western Hemisphere. She received American citizenship, and in 1946 became the first United States citizen to be canonized by the Catholic Church. Her ministry left a significant mark on the Americas, creating lasting institutions to educate and care for those in need. She is the patron saint of immigrants, orphans, and hospital administrators. Her feast day is November 13th.
