Grand Knight's Report
Dear Brother Knights,

This is GK Brian Jeffers and here is my monthly report. October got off to a fast start. First, we had our Sunday Breakfast on October 1st, and it benefited the Respected Life Ministry. It was a well-attended breakfast and the Respect Life Ministry benefited greatly from the breakfast. We moved our membership meeting to Tuesday, October 10th due to the Columbus Day Holiday. Frank Swider prepared roasted pork and smashed potatoes before the meeting. Our Council serves good meals before our meetings and I would like to invite all Brother Knights to come early for dinner, followed by the praying of the Rosary and finally stay for the meeting to learn about Council activities.

On Saturday, October 14th, St. John Neumann and Council 7923 held the Oktoberfest Dinner. The dinner was lightly attended but still modestly successful. All the guests were satisfied with the meal. We served roasted pork, smashed potatoes, and the best garlic bread I ever had. I would like to thank everyone who helped out and donated a dessert too. Great job Brother Knights.

Sadly, this month we lost SK Trevor Chen. He passed away on October 19th, 2023. He will be remembered for being humble, cheerful, someone who never complained, and he was a great baker too. He was a regular at the Sunday Breakfast serving line where he offered cupcakes to the children. His cupcakes were oftentimes more popular with the children than the pancakes. We will pay our last respects to Trevor Chen on November 6th at St. John Neumann for an 11:00 a.m. Memorial Mass.

Looking ahead, November will be a very eventful month. First, on Thursday, November 2nd, SJN will have their Mass of Remembrance and then on November 4th, the Knights will have their annual Knight’s Remembrance Mass to remember fallen Knights. Then our Sunday Breakfast will be held on November 5th, and it will benefit the Bereavement Ministry. On Saturday, November 11th, St. John Neumann will be hosting a Fourth Degree Exemplification which is a Statewide event. This is a great opportunity for Third Degree Knights in our Council to advance to the Fourth Degree. Then on November 13th, the Knights will be partnering with Boy Scout Troop 522 for the Flag Retirement Ceremony. This is an annual tradition for our Council. The first half of November will indeed be very busy.

Finally, I want to mention the Exemplification of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity Ceremony that was held on Saturday, October 21st. That day we exemplified 3 new Knights. We are glad to have them in our Council. For the new Knights, I would encourage all of them to get involved immediately. Start volunteering at our monthly breakfasts or at one of our monthly events. Consider volunteering at our Lenten Fish Fry Dinners. The first one will be on February 16th, 2024 and that day will be here before you know it. I would like to encourage all Knights as well to volunteer when you have an opportunity. After all, the best part of being a Knight is the satisfaction you feel when you volunteer and help other people. May God bless you all.

That concludes my report for October.

Vivat Iesu,

GK Brian Jeffers
