Grand Knight’s Report
Brother Knights,

We had another great month in September. We held our breakfast on September 11 and raised $423 for SJN Preschool scholarships.

We again hosted the Fourth Degree dinner meeting.

Our August Family of the Month was Jesus and Lori Lopez Ochoa and Knight of the Month was Eddy Reyes.

I want to thank Brother Joe Molyson for taking over as Membership Chairman. He has done a good job thus far and please introduce him to men who might be prospects for recruitment into our Order.
We will, hopefully, be holding an Exemplification in October to bring members directly to the Third Degree of the Order. If you have not participated in the new Exemplification please try to do so for the experience and to welcome new Knights.

I close with the same challenge made to our new Brothers: to live the principles of our order. Remember the first principle is Charity. Please take advantage any time you can of the opportunities provided to help out at events. Every month we have a Family Breakfast and typically one other event. The proceeds from these events go to various charitable causes. Helping out at these events means helping these charities and the opportunity to work in unity with brother Knights. On October 14 we will have an Octoberfest dinner. Thank you for your help in advance.

Vivat Jesu

Lecturer's Reflections
BK David Werve read an excerpt called the “Take Up Your Cross” from Father Landry who is a Priest at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceburg, IN.

Take Up Your Cross

“What is your cross?

Can you name it specifically?

Is what you named as your cross your actual cross or is it just the outward manifestation/symptom of the real cross you are supposed to carry?

Do you carry your cross or just drag it?

Do you hide your cross? Do you ignore your cross? Do you complain about your cross? Has complaining made it go away?

Who knows about your cross by name besides yourself? Does everyone, a select few or only you and Jesus?

Do you carry it daily or just during Lent or when it is bothering you?

Do you think others have easier crosses to bear?

Do you know other peoples crosses better than you know your own?
The hardest crosses are the ones we fail to recognize as a cross and thus we do not carry them.

Whatever cross you are carrying in your life at this time, claim it as your own. Name it as your own cross and talk to Jesus about what it is like to carry this cross?

I often look at my cross in the wrong way: a lazy heart, an angry heart, a selfish heart, a resentful heart, the heart of a victim. Often, I turn away from my cross. I ignore it and thus, also I turn away from God. I turn away from my truest self.

The cross isn’t bad. It isn’t wrong. It isn’t the problem. Jesus reminds me He is not calling me to fix it, or change it, or to make it go away…He is just asking me to carry it.

Until we see the cross as the solution to all of our problems, we will never see the cross for what it really is.

You are not your cross. You are carrying it – but it is not you.

Our world wants you to identify with your cross – God’s plan is the opposite. Jesus, after the resurrection, has the wounds, scars and marks of His cross, but He is no longer carrying it. It carried Him.”
