Volume 56 | March 2022
Grand Knight’s Report
Worthy Brother Knights,

It’s hard to believe March is here and Lent is starting. February went by so quickly.

We did have several events including two fund raisers in February. Our February Family Breakfast raised $750 for the Servants of Christ Ministry, and our Super Bowl Pulled Pork Take-out raised $374. Special thanks to our chairmen for those events. Brian Hanley ran the breakfast, still with help from outgoing chairman PGK Hugh Gardiner. Hugh has officially turned the program over to Brian, but he has graciously volunteered to help for a few months to ensure a smooth transition.  Our Worthy Treasurer PGK Steve Brischler as usual ran the Super Bowl smoker, and I received many compliments on how delicious the pork was. We do need to find someone else to be able to chair some of these smoker events so that we are not always depending on Steve.

Our third meal event of the month was our supporting role in the Marriage & Family Life Ministry’s Mardi Gras supper Saturday, February 26. BK Deacon Mike Hayward requested the Council’s help to prepare the meal for the MFL event. BK Frank Swider and his team did a super job cooking for about 170 people. This was a great service to help generate interest in this new Ministry, and they were very appreciative of 7923.

We held an Exemplification of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity on February 5, and welcomed three new brother Knights: Carlos Torres, Weston Mueller (BK Steve Mueller’s son) and Cesar Hernandez. We conducted the Exemplification using the Spanish language video from Supreme.

Our Knight of the Month for February was PGK Bruce Rago for the outstanding Council 40th Anniversary Celebration Bruce and his team gave us. Not only was the event a great time, Bruce even brought it in under budget. Our Family of the Month was PGK, DD Mark Davis and his wife Pamela, who have for years been shining examples of how we all should honor our parents. We also had a special service award for PGK Hugh Gardiner for his four years a Family Breakfast Chairman.

I am very proud to announce that 7923’s winner of the Knights Citizenship Essay Contest, 8th grader Sophia Papania, has also won the contest for 8th graders in the state of Georgia. Her essay will now be entered in the international competition. Sophia’s father Dr. Mark Papania is a Brother in 7923.

Finally, March and April will be very busy months with six fish fry’s and two breakfasts. Brothers, we need a big turnout from you to work these events and make them successful. Please turnout and help your Brother Knights at as many of these events as you can. It is only a short time, but it is our most important fund-raising time of the year. I urge you to look upon your service at these events as a part of your Lenten preparation and sacrifice.

Vivat Jesus,

Glenn Klein

Lecturer's Reflections

BK David Werve read an excerpt from “Saint John Henry Newman” about what happens when we are called home to meet the Lord. Please read the excerpt below.

“Each of us must come to the evening of life. Each of us must enter on eternity. Each of us must come to that quiet, awful time, when we will appear before the Lord of the vineyard, and answer for the deeds done in the body, whether they be good or bad. That, my dear brethren, you will have to undergo. … It will be the dread moment of expectation when your fate for eternity is in the balance, and when you are about to be sent forth as the companion of either saints or devils, without possibility of change. There can be no change; there can be no reversal. As that judgment decides it, so it will be forever and ever. Such is the particular judgment. … when we find ourselves by ourselves, one by one, in his presence, and have brought before us most vividly all the thoughts, words, and deeds of this past life. Who will be able to bear the sight of himself? And yet we shall be obliged steadily to confront ourselves and to see ourselves. In this life we shrink from knowing our real selves. We do not like to know how sinful we are. We love those who prophecy smooth things to us, and we are angry with those who tell us of our faults? But on that day, not one fault only, but all the secret, as well as evident, defects of our character will be clearly brought out. We shall see what we feared to see here, and much more. And then, when the full sight of ourselves comes to us, who will not wish that he had known more of himself here, rather than leaving it for the inevitable day to reveal it all to him!”
