Council District 7 Newsletter
Septembet 28, 2018 - In This Issue:
Dear Friends and Neighbors

On Saturday, I joined the San Jose Police Department for the first Boba with a Cop event at Vietnam Town. It was a great turn out! We had over 100 attend to meet local police officers and share concerns. This is definitely a good start for the community to build better relationships with our police department. Because of this event, many of the business owners will continue to meet and form a business association so that they can communicate with each other and resolve issues at Vietnam Town. I would like to thank all the business owners and residents that joined us. Your presence is greatly appreciated. And a special thanks to the San Jose Police Department and the District Attorney's Office for organizing this event.

I also hosted a Townhall Meeting on Public Safety at the Tully Library this past Monday. This is a great way for me and my staff to hear from you. It was a full house with residents and representatives from many  departments, such as, the San Jose Police Department, Housing Department, Code Enforcement, Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services, Caltrans, California Highway Patrol, Santa Clara Valley Water District, and the Department of Transportation. We had many questions on illegal dumping, homeless, and crime. For those of you who were not able to attend and need resources for these issues:

* If you see a crime in progress or an individual in need of immediate medical help, please call 911 - or (408) 277-8911 from a mobile phone.

* Anytime you encounter illegal dumping or trash - please use the MySanJose App to report the concern (the app is available for free in the Apple & Google app stores). It is very important to make sure you include a photo of the area in question and include your contact information. You may also report online if you do not have the app:
https://www.sanjoseca.gov/mysanjose

* If you see items blocking a pedestrian or traffic right-of-way please contact the Department of Transportation, Streets Dispatch, at
streets.dispatch@sanjoseca.gov .

* To report homeless activity, contact Homeless Concerns at (408) 975-1440 or
homelessconcerns@sanjoseca.gov .

* To report homeless encampments on the freeway or highway please submit a customer service request to the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) at
https://csr.dot.ca.gov/ (note that freeways, on-ramps/off-ramps, and highways fall under the authority of the State - CalTrans - and not the City of San Jose).

Thank you to everyone who came to share their concerns and ideas. I look forward to seeing you at our next townhall meeting.

If you need something to do this weekend, j oin me to celebrate the Moon Festival on Saturday, September 29th at the Vietnamese American Cultural Center at the George Shirakawa Community Center, from 2pm-7pm. There will be lots of activities for everyone to enjoy, such as, arts and crafts, music, singing, games, lantern giveaway, lion dancers and much more. I hope to see you there!

If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions on how we can improve our community, feel free to contact me at (408) 535-4907 or email me at district7@sanjoseca.gov.

Sincerely,
