Council District 7 Newsletter
June 22, 2018 - In This Issue:
Dear Friends and Neighbors

Last Saturday, I held a Dumpster Day in the Tropicana/Lanai neighborhood. We had over 150 residents participate who filled 10 dumpsters with debris that could have ended up in neighborhoods and streets. Thank you to Mayor Sam Liccardo and Councilmember Johnny Khamis for helping to sponsor this event as well as all the volunteers who came to help us load items.  Your participation helps to keep our neighborhoods safe and vibrant. If you need to get rid of any large items, schedule free unlimited large item pick up (such as mattresses, sofas, refrigerators, tires, and more) with your recycling collection company. Keep our city beautiful. Schedule your FREE pick up today!

On Tuesday, the San Jose City Council voted on several zoning amendments that will allow more people to build granny units or in-law units in their backyards. As the cost of housing in San Jose continues to rise, the council is making it easier for residents to build small units on their property. This is great news to help us bring badly needed housing to our city. We hope that home owners will take a chance on this program and help us solve part of the housing crisis in San Jose.

Are you interested in hosting a block party? Starting July 1st, block party (street closure) permits will be FREE for the 2018-2019 budget year. So this August 7th, for National Night Out, plan a block party with your neighbors! You still need to obtain a permit in order to have the street blocked off, but there will be no fee, saving you and your neighbors $203. Look forward to joining you on National Night Out.

Have a good weekend!

I f you have any questions, concerns or suggestions on how we can improve our community, feel free to contact me at  (408) 535-4907  or email me at  district7@sanjoseca.gov.

Sincerely,

The report identified a steady reduction in the City's traffic injury crash rate since the late 1980s, as well as declining fatalities in recent years. Still, the report emphasizes the City's Vision Zero goal of ending roadway fatalities, stating that any traffic deaths are preventable and unacceptable. To view this news release, click here.
